Ali Makes Liberal Call

Steve Karp open-shoved for his last 59,000 chips, and the action folded to Mustafa Ali in the big blind. Ali tanked for quite along time, until finally a player at the table called the clock.

"Don't call the clock," Ali urged the player.

"You're taking forever," the player responded.

A floor person arrived at the table, and began the countdown. There were only ten seconds left when Ali chose to commit enough chips to make the call.

Showdown
Karp: {k-Hearts}{j-Hearts}
Ali: {7-Spades}{5-Diamonds}

"You waited that long with THAT???" a player quipped.

Ali stole the lead when the flop fell {5-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}, and the {6-Spades} gave him an open-ended straight draw for kicks and giggles. Karp was one foot out the door, but the {j-Diamonds} spiked on the river, keeping him alive for the moment.

Karp is back over 100,000 chips, while Ali is down near 80,000.
