Massey Versus Smith

The board read {2-Spades}{j-Spades}{6-Spades}{4-Spades} and was being fought over by Aaron Massey and Mark Smith. Massey led for 50,000 before being raised to 100,000 by Smith. Massey reraised to 245,000 total and Smith called.

The river was the {k-Hearts}. Massey quickly bet 310,000 and Smith called just as quick. Both flopped flushes but it was the {a-Spades}{3-Spades} of Massey that beat out the {k-Spades}{8-Spades} of Smith.

"You know how much I got left?" asked Smith rhetorically. "Enough to win."

The very next hand Smith opened with a raise to 65,000 but when action folded to Massey he announced, "all in." Smith let go of his hand and dropped down even further.

Mark "Pegasus" Smith Eliminated in 5th Place ($26,650)

Robert Castoire raised to 77,000 from the small blind and Mark Smith called from the big blind. The flop came {10-Diamonds} {J-Spades} {5-Hearts} and Castoire led with 125,000. Smith minraised to 250,000 and Castoire called. The turn came {7-Hearts}, Castoire checked and Smith moved all in. Castoire tanked a short while before announcing a call.

Smith: {J-Clubs} {10-Clubs}
Castoire: {K-Diamonds} {Q-Clubs}

Smith had the lead holding two pair but Castoire had an up and down straight draw. The dealer burned a card and the river was the {9-Hearts}, filling Castoire's straight and keeping Smith from earning his sixth ring.

A Flop

Level 27 : 15,000/30,000, 4,000 ante

Almost every hand four-handed has involved a single raise and three folds in some order.

Donovan Darland just raised from the small blind to 75,000 and was called by Robert Castoire in the big blind. The flop was {a-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{6-Hearts} and Darland led for 100,000. Castoire let go of his hand and Darland scooped the first post-flop pot in awhile.

Donovan Darland Eliminated in 4th Place ($35,499)

Action folded to Aaron Massey in the small blind and he raised to 70,000. Donovan Darland made the call out of the big blind and the two went heads up to the flop.

The dealer laid out {10-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{5-Clubs} and Massey bet out 86,000. Darland decided to reraise to 212,000. After some thought, Massey moved all in forcing Darland out of his seat. He tanked for a few minutes, at points trying unsuccessfully to get Massey to talk. Eventually he made the call, risking his tournament life in the process.

Massey: {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}
Darland: {q-Spades}{10-Diamonds}

The turn {j-Spades} was a bit of a scare card but was ultimately harmless. The {6-Diamonds} hit the river to officially eliminate Darland. After the hand the two talked about how it was a "perfect setup" because Darland had done that same thing about two-hours earlier.

Bazely checked, Massey bet 213,000 and Bazely tossed in a call. Massey announced two pair and tabled {6-Diamonds} {5-Diamonds} and a dejected Bazely gave his cards another look before tossing them back to the dealer.
