Day 1 Started

Day 1a and 1b of Horseshoe Circuit Event Begins Today!

Another World Series of Poker Circuit Event is set to start at the beautiful Horseshoe Casino and Hotel in Southern Indiana. In a twist the the traditional format that the circuit events have seen in the past, all of the Main Event's this year will feature two "Day 1's". Day 1a will begin at 11 a.m. local time and play nine levels. Once the first flight has reached that mark, players will bag up their chips for Day 2. Day 1b will begin at 7 p.m. and registration will be open to those that busted in Day 1a or did not register at all. If you were a Day 1a participant and bagged up chips, you will not be able to play Day 1b. Those that make it through the Day 1b field will bag their chips and join their Day 1a competitors tomorrow for Day 2.

Last year, Charles "Woody" Moore outlasted a field of 289 players to claim the nearly 6-figure pay-day. Moore held a chip-lead when heads up play began against Kevin Calenzo and never relinquished his lead. Eventually Moore's Jacks held against the Ace-King of Calenzo and he was able to take home the title.

Play is set to begin any moment and we can already see they are set for an impressive turnout. With a total of 18 levels being played today between two starting fields, stay tuned right here to PokerNews for all the poker action!

Familiar Faces in the Crowd

Level 1 : 25/50, 0 ante

We've spotted a couple familiar faces in the crowd - ESPN's own Bernard Lee, Kevin Saul and 2011 WSOP Bracelet Winner Aaron Steury.

Steury won his bracelet in the $1,500 HORSE event besting notables Michael Chow, Jonathan Tamayo, David Baker and Victor Ramdin.

Two for Duke

Level 1 : 25/50, 0 ante

Duke Laha checked his option in the big blind after the player in first position limped and Bernard Lee called from the small blind.

The flop was {a-Spades}{q-Spades}{8-Hearts}. Lee checked, Laha bet 150 and both players called. The turn was the {k-Hearts} and was checked three ways. The river was the {4-Clubs} and Lee checked again. Laha bet 300 this time and Lee was the only caller. Laha tabled {a-Diamonds}{2-Spades} which was enough to ship the pot.

The very next hand, the same three players saw the flop for the minimum and Laha made a wheel on the river to scoop up some more chips. He now has 23,000.

Quads vs. Lee

Level 1 : 25/50, 0 ante

We found this hand on the {K-Hearts} {9-Hearts} {10-Spades} flop and Lee called 300 from his opponent that led out. The turn brought the {10-Diamonds} and both players checked. The river came {J-Hearts} and Lee called 600.

His opponent tabled {10-Clubs} {10-Hearts} for quads and Lee quickly sent his cards to the muck.

Subbarao Starts Strong

Level 2 : 50/100, 0 ante

After the first two players to act preflop both limped, Bangalore Subbarao raised to 250 on the button. The player in the big blind position and both limpers made the call.

The flop was {a-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{k-Clubs} and the player first to act led out 550. Action folded to Subbarao and he made the call. The turn was the {j-Clubs} which drew a check from the first player. Subbarao bet 600 and was called. The river came down the {5-Hearts} and this time both players checked. Subbarao threw over his {a-Spades}{10-Hearts} and the other player mucked.

Subbarao now has 22,000.

Hodson Busts One Early

Level 2 : 50/100, 0 ante

We caught the action on a flop of {8-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{7-Spades}. Bobby Hodson checked as did another player. A third player was on the button and bet 1,500. Hodson made the call and the two went heads up to the turn.

The dealer placed the {10-Diamonds} on the board and this time both players checked. When the {7-Clubs} landed on the river, Hodson led for 1,650 and after some thought his opponent moved all in. Hodson took a look back his cards, thought for just a moment and made the call. His opponent flipped over {k-Spades}{k-Clubs} but was upset to see the {7-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} of Hodson.

According to Hodson, the two players have developed a history during the past week, with a slow roll or two in between. It was clear the pot was that much more gratifying for Hodson who appears to have gotten the last laugh against his opponent.
