Bowen Wins at Showdown Without a Showdown

Level 16 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante
Kat Bowen
Kat Bowen

Action folded to the player in the cutoff and he opened for 8,000. WSOP Circuit Harrah's Philadelphia ring winner Kat Bowen defended in the big and ended up check-calling a bet of 11,000 on the {10-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}{A-Hearts} flop, Both players then checked the {J-Hearts} turn and Bowen did the same on the {4-Diamonds} river.

The cutoff thought for about 30 seconds before tossing out a bet of 19,000, and Bowen wasted little time in making the call. As soon as she put the chips in the pot, the cutoff flicked his cards to the muck. The dealer pushed Bowen the pot and she slide her cards to the muck.

Don't Worry Jill, Your Husband is Doing Fine

Level 17 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Mike Holm stopped by our desk toward the end of dinner break and asked us to let his wife, Jill, know that he is doing alright. In fact, in one of the first hands back from break, Holm opened for 10,000 under the gun and had one caller, the big blind.

The latter checked the {4-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{2-Spades} flop and Holm wasted little time betting 12,000. It was enough to get the job done as his opening conceded the hand. With that, Holm is up to 185,000.

Nguyen Eliminates Kirk

Level 17 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Tripp Kirk
Tripp Kirk

Andrew Nguyen opened for 9,000 from early position and cleared the field all the way around to two-time WSOP Circuit gold ring winner Tripp Kirk in the cutoff. The Harrah's St. Louis Main Event champ announced that he was all in for 70,000 and watched as the remaining field folded back around to Nguyen, who made the call.

Showdown
Kirk: {9-Clubs}{9-Hearts}
Nguyen: {A-Spades}{K-Hearts}

It was a classic race, and Kirk had to like his chances after the {8-Spades}{2-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} flop missed Nguyen. Unfortunately for him, the {A-Hearts} turn did not. Kirk stood from his chair and watched helplessly as the {K-Clubs} blanked on the river.

"Good luck, Andrew," Kirk said to his opponent. With that, the field was one player lighter and Nguyen was a bit richer . . . 260,000 to be exact.

Harwood Takes a Hit

Level 17 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Action folded to Loni Harwood in middle position and she opened for 8,000. A short-stacked player in the cutoff responded by moving all in for 26,500, and the button and both blinds got out of the way. Harwood shrugged before making the call and seemed glad she did.

Showdown

Harwood{A-Spades}{10-Hearts}
Opponent{A-Hearts}{4-Hearts}

The {J-Diamonds}{A-Diamonds}{5-Spades} flop gave both a pair of aces, but Harwood's ten kicker was best. Much to her dismay, the {4-Clubs} turn paired her opponents kicker and gave him the lead with two pair. The {9-Spades} river changed nothing and Harwood watched the pot slip through her hands.

Cowboy Rides Off Into the Sunset

Level 17 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
John Land
John Land

"Cowboy" John Land got off to a good start today, chipping up early and putting it on cruise control. He was flying high for awhile, but he was soon knocked down to size after a brutal hand. After that, Land tried to get back in contention but wasn't able to do so.

Recently he committed his stack with {A-Hearts}{7-Hearts} and was called by the {K-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds} of an opponent. The {3-}{2-}{5-} flop kept Land in the lead, but the {K-} turn was disaster. Suddenly Land needed help on the river, but it was not meant to be as the {10-} appeared.

From early position, Loni Harwood open-shipped for around 69,000 with {6-Spades}{6-Clubs} and happened to run into the small blind's {K-Clubs}{K-Spades}. Harwood was in desperate need of a six, but she was left wanting as the board ran out {J-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}.

River Sends Landreth Out the Door

Level 17 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Johnny Landreth
Johnny Landreth

Johnny Landreth has had a rough day. He began as one of our chip leaders but just couldn't get anything going, even dropping down to 32,000. He recently committed that amount after action folded to him in the cutoff, which both the button and big blind called.

The two active players checked down the {6-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{J-Clubs} flop and {9-Hearts} turn before the button bet a mere 5,000 on the {A-Clubs} river. The big blind got out of the way and the button rolled over {A-Spades}{10-Diamonds} for a rivered pair of aces. It was good as Landreth showed {K-Hearts}{J-Hearts} before taking his leave.
