Chip leader Tim Burt opened for 13,000 from middle position only to have Dave Fox move all in for around 60,000 from the hijack. The rest of the players got out of the way and Burt made the call.
Showdown
Burt
Fox
Burt seemed content to be in a race situation, and even more excited when the flop fell to give him a pair of aces and the lead. The turn left Fox needing a three on the river, and while the was close, it was one pip shy. With that, Fox exited the tournament area while Burt chipped up to 800,000.
James Arruebarena opened for 12,000 in middle position and Darvin Moon popped it to 25,000 flat from the button. The blinds folded and Arruebarena considered his action, then put in another raise to make it 38,000. Moon quickly made it 75,000 to play which was enough to convince Arruebarena to look for a better spot and folded.
Mandeep Narang opened for 13,000 on the button and Andrew Nguyen made it 36,000 to play from the small play. With action back on Narang, he re-checked his cards, started to pull out a 100,000 stack but then flat called.
The flop came and both players checked. The turn came and Nguyen bet 49,000. Narang re-checked his hole cards a second time but then slowly pushed his cards back to the dealer.
Mike Holm got his last 80,000 all in preflop holding and was racing against the of Jerry Good. The former was out of his seat at the edge of the stage with his back turned to the table and did not watch as the dealer put out the flop and river.
He may have saved himself some heartache as well as he was still turned away when the dealer put out the on the river to give Good the win and send Holm to the rail. "On the river?" Holm asked as he turned to collect his things. On the river indeed.
Mandeep Narang's chip stack has headed southward since the start of play. He lost another big chunk of chips, this time to Shawn Quillin. After three-way preflop action in which one player decided to get out of the way, Narang and Quillin had all their chips in the middle.
Quillin:
Narang:
The board ran and Quillin celebrated his six on the river by smacking the table even though he had the hand won regardless. Narang has slipped to 110,000 and Quillin has 455,000.
We found Daniel Lowery and Viet Vo heads up in a pot at the turn. The board read , Lowery checked and Vo bet 20,000. Lowery put out a tall stack of grey T5,000 chips which looked to be enough to put Vo all in.
Vo tossed his chips in and turned up his hand. Lowery then turned up his hand and the dealer put out the river. They stacks were counted and Lowery had actually bet 75,000 and wasn't enough to cover Vo.
Vo took the hand and then received an orbit penalty for exposing his cards.
Unfortunately we didn't catch the hand, but we can tell you that 2009 World Series of Poker Main Event runner-up Darvin Moon has been eliminated here in New Orleans in 55th place. He will take home $3,046 for his efforts.
We're not sure of the amounts, but Geffrey Klein opened the pot and was soon met with a three-bet by Cory Brinkman. Klein responded by moving all in and Brinkman made the call, creating a nearly 400K pot.
Showdown
Brinkman
Klein
Brinkman's face said it all. He knew he was in about the worst possible spot, but his face managed to light up like a Christmas tree when the flop fell to give him two pair and the lead. Klein couldn't believe it and both players were up out of their seats. The turn gave Klein some chop outs to a three, but the river was no help; in fact, it improved Brinkman to a full house.
With that, Brinkman chipped up to 500,000 while Klein made his way to the payout desk in 54th place.
