Day 2 Done: Crawford Leads The Way; Deeb Still Alive

Level 23 : 7,000/14,000, 2,000 ante
Brandon Crawford Far and Away Chip Leader
Brandon Crawford Far and Away Chip Leader

We have wrapped up a long and action packed day here at the WSOP Circuit event at the Bicycle Casino, and we have just 17 players who will be moving on to Day 3. Leading the way is Brandon Crawford, who bagged 2.225 million chips. He is followed by Cy Williams, who has 1.43 million. Still lurking in the field are Freddy Deeb (397,000), and the last woman standing, Julie Franks (686,000).

Brandon Crawford came into today as the fifth highest chip stack with 112,300, and he was a mainstay at the top of the leaderboard the entire day. From three tables on, he was our chip leader, and going into tomorrow’s play he will be the man to beat. One of the biggest hands for Crawford happened when we were down to our final three tables. Sal Rassibi opened for 31,000, David Singontiko called as did Crawford on the button. The flop came {a-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{j-Spades} and Rassibi moved all in, Singontiko folded and Crawford snap-called and immediately tabled {k-Spades}{q-Hearts} for Broadway.

Rassibi was at a loss for words and tabled {a-Clubs}{9-Clubs} and was looking for a miracle runner-runner to stay alive. But he whiffed when the board completed {2-Hearts}{10-Spades} and Crawford neared two million.

The story of the day, however, is Deeb. He is one of the players who decided to forgo Day 1 completely, and buy in today with a starting stack of 20 big blinds. He got to work right away, and every time we walked over to his table, his stack kept growing. This trend continued all day, and we will see if Deeb can add to his already illustrious poker career, as he looks for a WSOPC ring tomorrow.

Speaking of buying in today, there was another familiar face who opted to go the same route as Deeb: the poker brat himself Phil Hellmuth. Hellmuth started his day at the feature table, and while he managed an early double up, he eventually fell in the earlier levels of the day when his pocket sixes failed to outrun his opponent’s ace ten.

Other big names that fell short of the money today included Bryan Devonshire, Ray Henson, David “ODB” Baker, John Cernuto, Kenna James and Nick Rampone.

Players like Thor Hansen, Steve Brecher, and Alec Torelli all made the money, but fell short of advancing to Day 3.

The 17 remaining players have bagged and tagged their chips, and they will return tomorrow at noon PST to play down to a winner. Be sure to stay tuned to Pokernews.com for all of your up to the minute coverage. Thanks for reading, and have a great night!
