James Gilbert, winner of Event #7 here at the WSOP Circuit's Harrah's Resort Atlantic City stop ($1,125 NLHE), has been eliminated.
Gilbert began today with less than 20,000, but had managed to build his stack up during the first two levels of play on Day 2. Then came a hand in which he found himself playing from the big blind against a single opponent on the button. We arrived with the flop having been dealt, about 18,000 in the middle, and Gilbert having shoved all in for about 44,000.
His opponent tanked for some time before finally calling with for a set of fives. Gilbert turned over for top-and-bottom pair, and after the turn and river Gilbert was eliminated.
Aaron Massey has been eliminated and informed us of the details.
He opened to 2,500 from the cutoff and Dwyte Pilgrim three-bet to 6,000 from the small blind. Massey re-raised to 21,500, Pilgrim shoved, and Massey called all in with . Pilgrim held a slight lead with and held up through the board to eliminate Massey.
Down to less than two big big blinds, Nicholas Palma was all in with against an opponent's .
The flop did little to help Palma, but the turn gave Palma backdoor outs to two pair or trips. However, the river was not one of them and his Main Event came to an end.
The early afternoon NFL games are all well underway, and some players' attentions are being taken up somewhat by the action being shown on the big screens around the tournament area. Several are sporting jerseys today, too, in fact. We've seen Colts, Eagles, Bills, Bears, and Redskins receiving support via players' fashion choices.
Lee Childs is wearing his Washington jersey as the Skins/Ravens game plays on the big screen near his table. But his attention was on his neighbor to the left just now who opened from the cutoff for 5,000. Childs reraised to 10,000 from the button, and after the blinds got out, Childs's opponent showed his before folding as well.
Subsequent discussion included questions of Childs what he had, with one player suggesting pocket kings. "That's how I would've played kings," said Childs cheekily.
"Ah, so we'd have three wise men over there," said a player from across the table, referring to the three kings in the players' hands (theoretically speaking).
