The Sudden Rise of Jonathan Gray, Part 1

Level 17 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

We can definitively report that we have a new chip leader — Jonathan Gray. Indeed, the last ten minutes or so have been fairly remarkable for Gray, thanks to two huge hands in close succession.

The first one saw Gray and his neighbor to the left, Nesrine Kourdourli, get into a preflop raising war that eventually saw Kourdourli all in and Gray tanking for some time before calling for about 160,000 total. The two had begun the hand nearly even, with Kourdourli having had Gray covered by a small amount.

The pair tabled their cards, and Gray showed {Q-Clubs}{Q-Hearts} while Kourdouli turned over {A-Spades}{K-Spades}.

The dealer then spread the flop… {2-Spades}{8-Spades}{Q-Spades}! "Oooohhh," said the table at the sight of the three spades to give Kourdourli the flush as well as the queen to give Gray a set. The turn then brought the {7-Spades}, keeping Kourdourli in front.

Then came the river… {2-Diamonds}!

"Oooohhh," said the table once more, this time a little louder, as Gray had filled up to make a full house and better Kourdourli.

As mentioned, the drama would continue shortly thereafter… as will be revealed in part 2.
