Apicella Finds a Double

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Austin Apicella was all in for 76,000 preflop holding {k-Spades}{j-Hearts}, and was in very bad shape against Jonathan Hilton, who held {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds}.

The {q-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} flop gave Hilton a set of queens, but it also gave Apicella an open-ended straight draw. The {9-Clubs} on the turn completed that straight, and the {8-Diamonds} bricked on the river. Apicella doubled to 170,000 chips, while Hilton dropped down to 500,000.

Jarod Ludemann Eliminated in 13th Place ($20,663)

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Jeremy Ausmus opened to 16,000 from under the gun, John Bowman called in the hijack seat, Jarod Ludemann moved all in for 89,000 on the button, and Ausmus re-shoved. Bowman folded, and the hands were opened.

Ausmus: {k-Clubs}{q-Clubs}
Ludemann: {j-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}

Ausmus took the lead when the flop fell {q-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{6-Clubs}, giving him a pair of queens. Neither the turn ({8-Spades}) nor the river ({7-Hearts}) were of any help to Ludemann, and he was eliminated in 13th place.

Ashly Butler Eliminated in 12th Place ($25,006)

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Brock Parker opened to 16,000 in early position, Max Steinberg moved all in near the button, Ashly Butler called all in for less, and the action folded back to Parker, who folded as well.

Steinberg: {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs}
Butler: {a-Spades}{k-Spades}

The {10-Hearts}{3-Spades}{2-Diamonds} flop gave Butler two backdoor straight draws and a backdoor flush draw, and the {4-Diamonds} the turn kept his wheel draw alive. The {4-Clubs} bricked on the river however, and Butler was eliminated.

Steinberg is back up to 265,000 chips.

Tehan Doubles on a Sick Flop

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Joe Tehan raised to 16,000 out of the hijack seat, and Jeremy Ausmus three-bet to 36,000 on the button. The action folded back to Tehan, who called, and the dealer spread {10-Hearts}{5-Spades}{a-Hearts}. Tehan checked, Ausmus continued for 31,000, and Tehan check-raised all in for 142,000. Ausmus called.

Tehan: {q-Hearts}{j-Hearts}
Ausmus: {5-Clubs}{5-Hearts}

Tehan held a royal flush draw, but Ausmus was still ahead with his flopped set of fives. The {j-Clubs} on the turn gave Tehan a meaningless pair of jacks, and left him one card away from elimination. The river was red, and the {8-Hearts} gave Tehan his much-needed heart flush. He doubled to 360,000 chips, while Ausmus dropped down to 375,000.

Rex Clinkscales Eliminated in 11th Place ($25,006)

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Rex Clinkscales open-shoved for 97,000 from the hijack seat, Joe Tehan re-shoved in the cutoff, and the button and both blinds folded.

Clinkscales: {k-Spades}{5-Spades}
Tehan: {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}

Tehan's hand held as the board came {6-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{4-Hearts}, and the WSOP-C Harrah's Philadelphia Main Event winner hit the rail. Tehan now has 420,000 chips.

Apicella Lucky to Double

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Austin Apicella open-shoved for 90,000 from under the gun, and Brock Parker called in the big blind with {6-Hearts}{6-Clubs}. It was an awkward race as Apicella showed {j-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} for two overs, and Parker extended his lead when the flop fell {8-Spades}{6-Spades}{q-Diamonds}.

Apicella was still live with two backdoor draws, and the {5-Hearts} on the turn kept him alive. Any nine or four on the river would give him a straight, and it was the {4-Spades} that completed the board to give him said straight.

He miraculously doubled to 190,000 chips, while Parker is still very healthy with 850,000.

Value for Ausmus

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

John Bowman raised to 16,000 in the hijack seat, Jeremy Ausmus three-bet to 45,000 from the small blind, and Bowman made the call.

The dealer fanned {k-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{4-Spades}, Ausmus led out for 38,000, and Bowman called. Both players checked when the {4-Clubs} turned, and the {3-Clubs} completed the board. Ausmus led out again - this time for 85,000 - and Bowman tank-called.

Ausmus took down the pot when he showed {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts} for kings and fours, bringing him to 462,000 chips. Bowman was bumped down to 182,000.
