Day 3 Started

Can Hinkle Make History and Capture the WSOP Circuit Council Bluffs for a Second Time?

Blair Hinkle

Welcome back to the third and final day of the 2012-13 World Series of Poker Circuit Horseshoe Council Bluffs. What began with 367 entrants is now down to the final ten, each competing for the $121,177, the championship gold ring, and a coveted seat into the National Championship.

The man best position to capture that prize is Brendan Waite, who holds the chip lead with 1.432 million. Two other man are hot on his heels in Sean Small and WSOP bracelet winner Blair Hinkle, who won the 2010/2011 WSOP Circuit Horseshoe Council Bluffs $1,650 Main Event for $88,555.

We actually almost had a Hinkle final table, but Blair's brother, Grant, fell just shy in 11th place. While a family dynamic will be missing from the final table, there is another significant storyline to follow, that of Mark Bonsack, who won a ring in Event #6 $365 Limit Omaha Hi/Lo for $11,254 last week, is looking for his second win of the series and to lock up the Casino Championship title.

The third and final day is set to kick off at noon CST, which is about a half an hour from now, and PokerNews will be on hand to bring you all the live updates from that event.

First Action of the Day

Level 26 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante

The first hand of the day was a raise and take it from Cord Garcia. The second hand was a little more interesting. Trevor Deeter opened in middle position for 42,000 only to get reraised from Sean Small in the cutoff to 81,000. With the blinds folding, Deeter made the call and the flop came {10-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{8-Spades}. Deeter checked and Small bet 85,000, which was enough to take down an 81,000 pot.

Hughes Shoves

Level 26 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante

Blair Hinkle opened for 40,000 from middle position only to have Mark Bonsack three-bet to 95,000 from the hijack. Action then folded to Tim Hughes in the big blind and he four-bet all in for 595,000. Hinkle quickly got out of the way, and after thinking about it for a minute, Bonsack did the same.

Phil Mader Eliminated in 10th Place ($9,275)

Level 26 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante
Phil Mader - 10th
Phil Mader - 10th

It didn't take long for the first elimination of the day, less than a half an hour in fact. It happened on a {9-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{6-Clubs} flop when Phil Mader checked from the big blind and Sean Small bet 102,000. Mader moved all in for right around 300,000 and Small couldn't call fast enough.

Mader: {J-Hearts}{10-Spades}
Small: {K-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}

Small was ahead with pocket kings, but Mader was drawing very much alive to an open-ended straight draw. The {J-Diamonds} turn gave him even more outs, but the {3-Clubs} river was not one of them. Mader exited in tenth place for $9,275 and the official final table was set.

Raising War: Bonsack Vs. Small

Level 26 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante

Action folded around to Sean Small on the button who raised to 40,000 and Mark Bonsack made the call from the big blind. With a flop of {6-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{a-Clubs}, Bonsack check-raised Small's continuation bet of 43,000 to 97,000. After a little bit of a pause, Small decided to raise back and made it 168,000. When Bonsack quickly shoved all in for around 160,000 more, Small tossed his hand in the muck.
