“What A Call!” – Ferreira Doubles Up

Level 18 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

The flop was {9-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{2-Clubs} with just over 50,000 in the middle and Jan Mach checked it to Goncalo Jose Ribeiro Ferreira who bet 23,500.

Mach responded by moving all in and Ferreira asked for a count. It was 159,000 which was right around what Ferreira himself had left.

Ferreira studied his opponent, asked him some questions, doing everything possible to get a response, to somehow find out where he was. Mach though did not move a muscle. He barely even blinked.

The clock was called and the countdown began. With close to 30 seconds left Ferreira called the table craned their necks to see what each player had.

Mach turned over {a-Hearts}{2-Hearts}

Ferreira had risked it all with {j-Spades}{9-Spades}

It wasn’t over yet though. The dealer put a {q-Diamonds} on the turn and the river was the {9-Hearts}. Trips in the end for Ferreira.

“What a call. What a play!” exclaimed Yehuda Cohen as Ferreira got a fist bump from another player.

There was respect for both players round the table as most agreed they put Mach on a strong hand but also had admiration for the gutsy call.

Ferreira doubled up and Mach was left with a bowl of rice.
