Turner Takes Big Lead as Several Big Names Begin Day 2 of the WSOP Global Casino Championship

It is time for Day 2 of the WSOP Global Casino Championship. A field of 53 surviving players from Day 1 will converge back on the felt in Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort at 2 p.m. to battle down to select few players.

Day 1 was full of action, as the field was trimmed by more than half to create several big stacks in the room, including Joshua Turner who bagged an astounding 649,000. He has nearly double the amount of his next closest competitor, Stephen Song who will be bringing 374,500 back with him to Day 2. Maurice Hawkins will also boast one of the largest stacks in the room with 363,000. Paulis Vaituekunas with 338,000 in chips is the only other player that has over 300,000

Several well known players are left standing, such as Valentin Vornicu (238,000) , Sean Yu (195,000) , Warren Sheaves (167,500), Roland Israelashvili, (103,500) and Alex Lynskey (58,000)

Registration is technically still open until the start of play today, so there is the possibility that a couple more players could hop in to join the remaining 53. The plan is to play down to the final six players before stopping and returning for Day 3 tomorrow. With several relatively deep stacks still remaining and the average stack at 57 big blinds, that goal of reaching six could make for a very long Day 2.

Play begins at 2 p.m. local time at level 11 with blinds at 1,000/2,500 and a 2,500 big blind ante. There will be a 15-minute break after every two levels with a 60-minute dinner break after the sixth level

PokerNews will provide all the coverage of the biggest hands, chip count updates and schedule updates as they happen.
