The $1,700 Main Event is just one of a dozen gold ring events taking place at the Harrah’s Cherokee stop. For over a week, players have been competing for WSOP Circuit hardware and big chunks of prize money.

In Event #4: $600 No-Limit Hold’em, 442 entrants created a $227,630 prize pool and saw 33-year-old Kernersville, North Carolina poker player Zachary Caldwell breakthrough to capture his first gold ring and a $46,669 first-place prize.

To do so he had to defeat accomplished poker pro Dylan Wilkerson in heads-up play.

“I told my wife yesterday that I was going to win it for her,” said the father of two young children. “I felt good, I felt like it was just meant to be.”

He continued: “I had this thought in my head throughout the tournament, it doesn’t matter what happens, I am the luckiest man in the room. I have a beautiful wife, two beautiful baby girls, if I win or I come in 442nd it’s not going to change my life. I’m happy I won but it doesn’t change anything.”
