Hubert Gets Value With Top Pair

Level 5 : 200/300, 300 ante
Byron Hubert
Byron Hubert

The full {10-Spades}{q-Spades}{a-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} board was already on the felt when the big blind checked over to Byron Hubert, who bet 4,000 from under the gun.

The big blind went into the tank for a minute, looking over the 9,000 in the pot, and at one point stacked up all of his big denomination chips, looking down as he did. He eventually plucked four yellow 1,000 chips out of the stack and called, only to quickly mucka fter Hubert tabled {a-Spades}{j-Clubs}.

Mistelske Shows the Bluff

Level 5 : 200/300, 300 ante

Dustin Mistelske raised to 800 from the hijack, and was called by Robert Gray in the cutoff, as well as both of the blinds.

The blinds checked the {k-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{3-Hearts} flop over to Mistelske, who bet 1,600. Only the small blind called.

The small blind checked again on the {9-Spades} turn, and Mistelske bet 3,000. The small blind called.

The {7-Spades} completed the board on the river, and the small blind checked a third time. Mistelske bet 7,500, and the small blind folded. Mistelske turned over {10-Clubs}{2-Clubs} before raking in the pot.

Level 6 : 200/400, 400 ante
Ryan Van Sanford
Ryan Van Sanford

After a limp from a player under the gun, the hijack raised to 800. The button called, and Ryan Van Sanford three-bet to 5,400 from the small blind. Action folded to the hijack, who four-bet jammed for 29,300. The button folded, and Van Sanford quickly called.

Opponent: {a-Diamonds}{2-Spades}
Ryan Van Sanford: {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}

Van Sanford's Big Slick held on the {8-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{6-Hearts} flop, and the {k-Spades} turn secured the knockout for Van Sanford before the {a-Hearts} could fall on the river.

Smith Gets a Dub Through Harvell

Level 6 : 200/400, 400 ante
Jerod Smith

Two-time WSOPC ring winner Justin Harvell had 3,300 in front of him from middle position, and was contemplating an all in bet from WSOPC Ameristar St. Charles Casino Champ Jerod Smith on the button for 9,200. Harvell didn't look thrilled, but put in calling chips after a short stint in the tank.

"Slowroll!" Smith said with a grin before tabling his hand.

Jerod Smith: {a-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}
Justin Harvell: {k-Spades}{4-Clubs}

"Yes! That's what I wanted!" Harvell said with a laugh upon seeing his hand was live.

The {9-Hearts}{2-Spades}{10-Hearts} flop and {8-Diamonds} turn brought to help for either player, and the {q-Spades} river secured the double for Smith.

Ricky Doyle Becomes WSOP Circuit Gold Ring Winner with Event #3 Victory

Level 6 : 200/400, 400 ante
Ricky Doyle

The PokerNews Live Reporting Team is at the Horseshoe Southern Indiana in the Louisville area to live report the $1,700 Main Event; however, that is just one of more than a dozen gold ring events that have taken place over the past week. As such, we thought we’d profile some of the preliminary tournaments and those who struck it big.

Event #3: $250 Double Stack No-Limit Hold’em attracted 485 entries and offered up a $97,000 prize pool.

Coming out on top was 56-year-old Ricky Doyle from Cynthiana, Kentucky, who earned $19,447 for the victory and captured his first gold ring. It took him 18 hours to clinch victory in the one-day tournament.

"I was a little tired but I was just lucky as hell," Doyle said. "I was catching and hitting a lot at the final table."

The win has inspired Doyle to play a bit more, which might include the $1,700 Main Event.

"I just might play the big one now,” he said with a smile.

Cooler Turn, Crueler River For Apter

Level 7 : 300/500, 500 ante

On a {q-Hearts}{4-Spades}{k-Hearts}{10-Spades} board, WSOP Bracelet winner Brett Apter and Ernest "Smitty" Smith got into a raising war that saw Apter get his last 31,300 in chips in the middle, and Smith, who had Apter covered by just 2,100, called.

Brett Apter: {a-Hearts}{j-Clubs}
Ernest Smith: {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}

Apter had turned a Broadway straight, but was vulnerable against the set of tens of Smith. The {k-Spades} river filled up Smith, and Apter hit the rail, while Smith's neighbor called a smiling Smith a "luckbox" as he drug in the pot.
