Poker Media Veteran Sam Cosby Wins First Gold Ring in Monster Stack
While PokerNews is here offering live updates from the $1,700 Main Event, we’d be remiss if we didn’t tell you about the full schedule of side events that have been playing out over the past week at the World Series of Poker Circuit Harveys Lake Tahoe.
In Event#8: $400 NLH Monster Stack, 334 runners created a $110,220 prize pool that was paid out to the top 51 spots. Among those to cash were Kim Schinco (13th - $1,365), Ian Steinman (17th - $1,141), Adam Owen (25th - $747), Shirin Oskooi (36th - $574), and Joey Weissman (43rd - $561).
Two weeks removed from finishing runner-up in an event at WSOP Circuit Horseshoe Hammond, it was poker media veteran Sam Cosby coming out on top to win $24,270 and his first gold ring.
“I don’t wanna get too excited about it, because if I want this to be the first of many, I wanna keep my head level,” Cosby said after the win. “I don’t wanna get all blown up about winning a ring. It feels great to win.”
He continued: “I don’t really do anything else. This is basically what I do now. I do love the live reporting side. I won’t lie and say I don’t miss it because I do. I’m a poker fanboy at heart. A lot of poker dealers and poker reporters are people that wanna be close to poker. They’re either poker fans or poker dreamers. I’ve always wanted to make a run at it and now we’re making a run at it.”
With 50 points to go along with what he’s already earned, the 29-year-old Cosby now has his sights set on the GCG.
“I wanna qualify for the Global Casino Championship – that’s my big goal for the year. I think I have a good shot at it now,” he said.
