Perason Takes Down Three-Way Pot

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Joey Weissman opened to 14,000 in early position, Alex Greenblatt called from the cutoff, and Michael Pearson called in the big blind.

The flop came {4-Spades}{q-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}, and all three players checked. All players again checked through the {8-Diamonds} turn.

Pearson bet 33,000 on the {3-Spades} river, Weissman called and Greenblatt folded. Perason showed down {a-Clubs}{q-Hearts} to take down the pot with top two pair.

Chao Doubles Through Pantaleo

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
William Chao
William Chao

With {9-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} on the board, William Chao bet 52,000 from the big blind, and Giuseppe Pantaleo called in the hijack.

The river brought the {k-Diamonds}, and Chao went all in for his last 117,000.

Pantaleo went into the tank for several minutes, eventually deciding on a call. Chao turned over {q-Spades}{q-Hearts}, and his set of queens were the winner in the massive pot.

Eldar Scores the Knockout

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

A short-stacked player went all in from early position, Alon Eldar reshoved on that player's direct left, and all other players folded.

Opponent: {k-Hearts}{5-Hearts}
Alon Eldar: {j-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}

Board: {j-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}

Eldar ended up with jacks full on the runout, and the Day 1b chip leader sent the opponent to the rail.

While PokerNews is here offering live updates from the $1,700 Main Event, we’d be remiss if we didn’t tell you about the full schedule of side events that have been playing out over the past week at the World Series of Poker Circuit Harveys Lake Tahoe.

In Event #9: $600 No-Limit Hold’em, 183 runners meant a $84,245 prize pool was paid out to the top 28 places. Among those to cash were Charles “Woody” Moore (5th - $5,341), Ken Baime (9th - $1,921), Dan O’Brien (13th - $1,335), James Pupillo (22nd - $945), and Jesse Kertland (28th - $865).

In the end, it was HPT champ Alex Greenblatt coming out on top to win $23,678 and his first gold ring.

“Just trying to play when you wanna play and not forcing it, you know,” Greenblatt said of his success. “Really have the desire, not just playing because you feel like you need to.”

Despite the win, and more than $1.5 million in career earnings, the 27-year-old pro doesn’t plan to be in the game long.

“I’m actually trying to get out of poker,” he admitted. “I’m gonna try to go back to school. MBA is my plan right now. I just don’t wanna be down-swinging when I’m like 45 and have no options.”
