While PokerNews is here offering live updates from the $1,700 Main Event, we’d be remiss if we didn’t tell you about the full schedule of side events that have been playing out over the past week at the World Series of Poker Circuit Harveys Lake Tahoe.
In Event #9: $600 No-Limit Hold’em, 183 runners meant a $84,245 prize pool was paid out to the top 28 places. Among those to cash were Charles “Woody” Moore (5th - $5,341), Ken Baime (9th - $1,921), Dan O’Brien (13th - $1,335), James Pupillo (22nd - $945), and Jesse Kertland (28th - $865).
In the end, it was HPT champ Alex Greenblatt coming out on top to win $23,678 and his first gold ring.
“Just trying to play when you wanna play and not forcing it, you know,” Greenblatt said of his success. “Really have the desire, not just playing because you feel like you need to.”
Despite the win, and more than $1.5 million in career earnings, the 27-year-old pro doesn’t plan to be in the game long.
“I’m actually trying to get out of poker,” he admitted. “I’m gonna try to go back to school. MBA is my plan right now. I just don’t wanna be down-swinging when I’m like 45 and have no options.”
