Sheaves Makes Correct Call

Level 7 : 300/500, 500 ante
Warren Sheaves (from Day 1a)
Warren Sheaves (from Day 1a)

Action was on the river with the board reading {2-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{6-Spades}. Warren Sheaves was in the tank with a decision as he was facing a river bet of 8,000 from Maury Barrett.

Sheaves eventually put in the one chip call.

Barrett reluctantly rolled over his {a-Diamonds}{j-Hearts} and Sheaves tabled the {a-Hearts}{7-Clubs} for a pair which was good enough to win the pot.

Izadi Makes Use of Board

Level 8 : 300/600, 600 ante

A large pot of about 45,000 was already in the middle as the river came to complete the heart-heavy board of {3-Spades}{k-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{8-Hearts}.

Hamid Izadi bet 20,000 over to his opponent Bobby Lovette who thought for about 10 seconds before folding.

Izadi pulled in the pot as Lovette claimed to have flopped a set but the fourth heart and the pressure from Izadi proved enough to force him to throw it away.

Cartwright Spills Opponent With Flush

Level 8 : 300/600, 600 ante

The board read {j-Clubs}{k-Spades}{6-Clubs}{3-Clubs} on the turn and Kyle Cartwright was facing a bet of 2,000 from his opponent. After thinking for a little while he pushed a stack of big chips forward to force his opponent, who called immediately, all in.

Cartwright had the flush with the {10-Clubs}{7-Clubs} while his opponent had the {a-Clubs}{a-Spades} and was hoping for a fourth club to make the nut flush.

But the river was a harmless {q-Hearts} and Cartwright collected the pot as his opponent got up to walk away.

PokerNews is in town to live report the $1,700 Main Event here at the World Series of Poker Circuit IP Biloxi, but that is just one of the gold ring events that will have played out by the end of the series.

In Event #9: $600 No-Limit Hold’em, 145 runners created a $74,675 prize pool that was paid out to the top 23 players. Among those to cash but fall short of making the final table were Jerry Giroir (10th - $1,322), Melisa Singh (12th - $1,322), Hamid Izadi (14th - $1,137), Burnie Burns (21st - $924), and David Prociak (23rd - $438).

After Daniel Lowery busted in third for $8,530, the title came down to Alabama’s Corey Harrison and Louisiana’s Charles Brady, who won Event #3 at the stop. The former, a 42-year-old college professor, ultimately prevailed to win the tournament for $20,027 and his first ring.

“It feels great, I’ve actually been to a few final tables but the cards actually fell my way today, so I was able to make it through. It feels good to finally make it over the top,” said Harrison.

On his match with Brady, Harrison offered the following: “I was behind quite a bit, but I was pretty patient, and I made a couple of big hands, when he actually had hands. He doubled me up twice. One time he had ace-deuce, I had ace-eight, so that worked out well, and another time we played a really big pot when I turned the nut straight and he had two pair. That was the hand where I got most of my chips.”
