Dub for Davenport

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

A player in middle position shoved for 26,000 effective, almost double the pot, on {k-Clubs}{6-Spades}{j-Clubs}. David Davenport shook his head but shrugged and called it off from the cutoff with {a-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}. He was leading against {q-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}.

The {8-Clubs} turn brought even more cards for Davenport to dodge but the river was a {6-Diamonds}.

Apter Finds a Huge River Double

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

Brett Apter raised to 8,000 in the small blind and Don Carlton made it 23,000 in the big. Apter shoved all in for 78,500 and Carlton was in there with a quick call.

Carlton: {9-Clubs}{9-Spades}
Apter: {q-Clubs}{j-Clubs}

The {k-Spades}{6-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{a-Hearts} board left Carlton dodging a heap of rivers, and the {q-Spades} paired Apter for a double.

Welko Wakes Up

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

Austin McCormick opened under the gun and a player in the cutoff shoved all in for 69,000. Craig Welko called in the big blind and McCormick folded.

Welko: {q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}
Opponent: {5-Hearts}{5-Clubs}

The {6-Spades}{10-Clubs}{4-Hearts} board had the cutoff raising out of his seat but he paused at seeing the {7-Spades} turn as he picked up a straight draw. The river was a {9-Spades}, just missing him.

PokerNews is in town to live report the $1,700 Main Event here at the World Series of Poker Circuit Ameristar St. Charles, but that is just on gold ring event that will have played out by the end of the series.

In Event #5: $400 Pot-Limit Omaha, 85 runners created a $28,050 prize pool. The top 13 got paid and among those to cash but fall short of the final table were Maurice Hawkins (10th - $658), Allen Kessler (11th - $658), Shawn Quinn (12th - $658), and Cory Bogert (13th - $630).

In the end, 44-year-old Jason Simon beat Jermaine Coleman in heads-up play to win the title for $8,563 and his first gold ring.

“I play Big-O cash games here almost every day,” he said after the win.

Day 2 only lasted a little over three hours and stacks were relatively close throughout. Simon was only a slight favorite when he reached heads up with Coleman. It was a cooler finish for Coleman though when both players flopped trip kings and after getting all of the chips in the middle Simon held up with his bigger kicker.
