Welcome to Day 2 of the 2020 WSOP Circuit Horseshoe Hammond Main Event

Ravi Raghavan
Ravi Raghavan

Day 2 of the 2020 WSOP Circuit Horseshoe Hammond $1,700 Main Event is set to kick off at 11 a.m. local time, with 184 of the 989 entrants coming back to the Horseshoe Hammond Convention Center. Today's Day 2 will see the field play ten one-hour levels as the field is trimmed down before the final day on Monday, March 2nd.

Giedruis Bagdonas returns today as an overwhelming chip leader, sitting with 814,500. Bagdonas's staggering stack sits over 300,000 chips above his next competitor, Day 1a chip leader David Jackson and his 511,500 chip stack. Rounding out the top 5 stacks are William Webb (429,500), Ruslan Sladkov (402,500) and Alex Yen (382,500).

12-time WSOP Circuit ring winner Josh Reichard (280,000) headlines a talented group of notables chasing Bagdonas, and WSOP Bracelet winners Chad Holloway (305,500), Alex Ziskin (188,500), and Scott Bohlman (59,000) also remain in contention. Mark Fink (262,500), Patrick Steele (196,000) and defending champ Ravi Raghavan (180,500) are also lurking.

A prize pool of $1,498,335 was built up by the 989 entrants, surpassing the $1 million guarantee. 149 players will earn a piece of the prize pool, with a min-cash worth $2,547. Making it to the final nine guarantees a $26,010 payday, while the eventual champion will walk home with $258,078, a coveted WSOP Circuit ring, and a seat in the 2020 WSOPC Global Championship.

Be sure to follow along right here on PokerNews as we move closer to crowning a champion here at Horseshoe Hammond!

Even "The Chainsaw" Makes Mistakes

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Allen Kessler in Day 1b action
Allen Kessler in Day 1b action

Allen "The Chainsaw" Kessler jammed for 35,500 from the cutoff, and Johnathan Theisen three-bet shoved for 39,500 in the small blind, chasing out Rodney Hobbs in the big blind.

Allen Kessler: {q-Spades}{10-Spades}
Johnathan Theisen: {a-Hearts}{10-Clubs}

"I'm in bad shape," Kessler correctly noted.

The {7-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} flop gave both players open-enders, and while the {4-Clubs} turn bricked off, the {j-Hearts} hit the river.

"Chop it!" Kessler said.

The table pointed out to Kessler that he had actually made a higher straight, and Kessler apologized to Theisen, who was left with just a single big blind.

Vance Lanced by Eng

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Tim Vance in Day 1b action
Tim Vance in Day 1b action

Tim Vance had his last 100,500 in chips in preflop and was at risk against Matthew Eng.

Tim Vance: {q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}
Matthew Eng: {a-Hearts}{7-Hearts}

Eng found his ace immediately on the {9-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{a-Clubs} flop, and Vance couldn't catch up on the {3-Clubs} turn or {4-Spades} river to bust.

"That's the way she goes sometimes," Vance sang as he left the table.

Seitz Makes A Move

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

Brian Skupien opened for 10,000 on the button and Jason Seitz defended his big blind to see a {2-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{2-Spades} flop.

Seitz check-called Skupien's 6,000 continuation bet, and then check-jammed after Skupien fired out 9,000 once the {q-Diamonds} fell on the turn getting a fold from Skupien.

Paul Elfelt in Day 1 action
Paul Elfelt in Day 1 action

Paul "Big Daddy" Elfelt jammed for 47,000 from the hijack, and Matthew Eng called in the small blind.

Paul Elfelt: {a-Spades}{9-Clubs}
Matthew Eng: {a-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}

Eng stayed ahead on the {7-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} flop, but Elfelt picked up a gutshot on the {j-Spades} turn. The {q-Spades} river bricked off, and Elfelt hit the rail.
