Nedelcu Tops Busy Day 1a; Bise and Alkan Bag Big Stacks at King's Resort

Level 9 : Blinds 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
Narcis Nedelcu

Europe's biggest poker arena at the King's Resort in Rozvadov is gearing up for the business end of the year. For the third time in 2022, the World Series of Poker International Circuit headed to the Czech venue near the border to Germany and it may very well attract the largest turnout.

Thanks to a total of 307 entries consisting of 241 unique players and 66 re-entries, the 2022 WSOP Circuit King's €1,700 Main Event Autumn edition is off to a fabulous start. In the previous two editions earlier this year, 808 and 648 entries emerged and an even busier second starting day is expected by the local staff.

Upon completion of nine levels of 60 minutes each, the Day 1a field was cut into more than half and just 127 players advanced to Day 2 on Sunday, October 9, 2022. A close race for the lead unfolded in the late stages and it was Romania's Narcis Nedelcu who came out on top of it with a stack of 325,000. Tom Orpaz (311,500) and Emil Bise (302,900) also bagged up more than five times the starting stack of 50,000 as well.

Other notables with big stacks include Petr Targa (277,200), Matthew Bushell (239,200), Andreas Chalkiadakis (236,800), Jason Wheeler (232,000), and Albert Hoekendijk (209,800). The Spring edition champion Volkan Alkan also claimed an above-average stack of 191,900 to his name, giving a potential second victory in the calendar year a great start.

Further WSOP bracelet winners such as Antoine Vranken, Renat Bohdanov, Dalibor Dula, Sergiu Covrig, and Sebastian Langrock all advanced but can also enter the second starting day in order to run up a bigger stack. That option is available to all survivors as well. The late registration remains open for the first two levels on Day 2.

Notable casualties included the former champion Andrea Ricci, Aliaksandr Shylko, Clement Cure, Dawid Smolka, Symeon Alexandridis, Vangelis Kaimakamis, Pierre Neuville, Claudio Di Giacomo, and Tobias Peters to name all but a few regulars at the King's Resort. Many of them are expected to give it another shot on Day 1b when the action kicks off at 2pm local time.

The PokerNews live reporting team will be back on the floor then to provide as many hands as possible on what shapes up to be an exciting day of live poker in the heart of Europe.

Bise Back Near the Top

Level 9 : Blinds 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
Symeon Alexandridis
Symeon Alexandridis

There is a new big stack in the field and he is from Switzerland. Emil Bise recalled a three-bet pot to 14,000 in the small blind and was called by Symeon Alexandridis. On a flop of {k-Clubs}{10-Spades}{7-Clubs}, Bise check-raised from 20,000 to 45,000 and Alexandridis stuck around to then see the {9-Spades} on the turn.

Bise jammed with pocket tens for a set and Alexandridis tabled the {q-Spades}{j-Spades} for the straight and flush draw. Another spade came but it was the {7-Spades} river that paired the board.

Brendan Shiller

Heads-up to the {9-Spades}{4-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{7-Spades} turn, Marek Blasko checked from an early position and then called a bet worth 21,500 by Brendan Shiller. The {7-Spades} on the river was instantly checked behind by Shiller and Blasko tabled the {a-Spades}{q-Hearts}.

"Sorry, I had to do it," Shiller grinned and tabled the {j-Diamonds}{4-Spades} for a pair of fours to win the pot.

"I am done for the day now. I played the king trey and the jack four," the American joked before adding "I told him one orbit ago I was gonna do it."

Bise Doubles Helou and Neuville

Level 7 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Emil Bise
Emil Bise

While Emil Bise was able to run up a larger stack, it was nearly cut in half within quick succession. He first got it in for more than the starting stack with {5-Hearts}{5-Clubs} against the {9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} of Mark Helou.

The {k-Hearts}{4-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{9-Spades} board kept Helou ahead and he doubled with a set.

Up next, Pierre Neuville was all-in for 19,300 on a three-way turn of {9-Clubs}{8-Spades}{6-Hearts}{3-Clubs}. Gaetano La Iacona folded and Bise called.

Pierre Neuville: {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}
Emil Bise: {a-Hearts}{10-Spades}

The {2-Spades} river brought no help to Bise as Neuville held onto the lead with his overpair.

Baldelli Jams Into Benkovic

Level 6 : Blinds 400/800, 800 ante
Fabien Baldelli
Fabien Baldelli

Lukas Benkovic three-bet only for Fabien Baldelli to four-bet out of the blinds for 14,500 total. Only Benkovic came along as the duo checked the {j-Hearts}{9-Spades}{5-Clubs} flop. On the {10-Clubs} turn, Baldelli bet 9,700 and was called to then see the {7-Clubs} on the river.

Baldelli now jammed for 25,700 and Benkovic folded.

"Did you get there?" Baldelli was asked and Sebastian Langrock chimed in with a "he is French, he didn't have shit".

Marek Blasko had opened and Roman Korniienko three-bet to 4,200. Blasko then four-bet only for Korniienko to five-bet shove and get snap-called by Blasko.

Marek Blasko: {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}
Roman Korniienko: {a-Hearts}{q-Spades}

There was not much of a sweat on the {j-Spades}{j-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{k-Hearts} board as Blasko doubled for 46,700.

Madsen Takes a Hefty Hit

Level 5 : Blinds 300/600, 600 ante
Jakob Madsen
Jakob Madsen

By the time the cards were flipped over, there had already been around 35,000 chips in the middle. Vasyl Pidhrushnyi had the best of it with {5-Hearts}{5-Clubs} for a flopped full house on {5-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{3-Spades}. Jakob Madsen had two outs with his {j-Spades}{j-Clubs} but those vanished instantly when the {5-Spades} turn improved Pidhrushnyi to quads.

A meaningless {8-Hearts} river left Madsen with a severe short stack. "Good flop, the turn was okay," Pidhrushnyi said with a smile on the face.

Tran Hits the Rail for Now

Level 4 : Blinds 200/500, 500 ante
Do Tran
Do Tran

"Of course," Do Tran said with a dry smile on the face after he was all-in preflop with a short stack of 13,000 and miles ahead only to be left with a mere two outs.

Tran's {k-Diamonds}{k-Clubs} was up against the {2-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} of Paul Covaciu, who nailed the {4-Spades}{3-Clubs}{2-Clubs} flop. No help came on the {8-Hearts} turn and {9-Diamonds} river, sending the previous WSOP Circuit King's Main Event finalist Tran to the rail for now.

"It has been going on like that all day long," he sighed on the way out.

"Mr. Bond" Out for a Second Time

Mr. Bond
Mr. Bond

Heads-up to the {q-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{2-Clubs} turn with some 22,000 in the middle, King's regular "Mr. Bond" bet 15,000 and Andreas Chalkiadakis made the call.

The {6-Hearts} fell on the river and "Mr. Bond" pushed all-in for 34,800. Chalkiadakis tanked for a long time as the new level kicked off and then called. "Mr. Bond" showed the {a-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} for a bluff, which Chalkiadakis had beat holding the {k-Spades}{q-Hearts} for the top pair.

Pustula Eliminated by "A Big Hand"

Level 4 : Blinds 200/500, 500 ante
Jacek Pustula
Jacek Pustula

Heads-up to the {9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{2-Hearts} turn with some 25,000 in the middle, Jacek Pustula checked with around 30,000 behind. Mark Helou then pushed all-in from the button and that sent Pustula into the tank.

"I have a big hand. If you want to go ahead, call," Helou said with a smile on the face. Pustula ultimately did call and the cards were flipped over.

Jacek Pustula: {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}
Mark Helou: {9-Spades}{2-Spades}

The {j-Clubs} river was a blank and Helou added "I told you I have a big hand" while Pustula left the table with a very sarcastic "yeah yeah ... big hand".
