Holdeew in the Money Despite Not Wanting to Play

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 0 ante
Dimitri Holdeew
Dimitri Holdeew

Among the players already in the money is Germany's Dimitri Holdeew, who didn't want to play in the event after initially registering when thinking there would be overlay. He realized this would otherwise be the case after he took his seat. As things turned out, Holdeew was lucky he already took his seat - and thus was unable to unregister- since he has already has tripled his €3,000 buy-in.

Jani Vilmunen Bubbles the High Roller Event

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 0 ante
Jani Vilmunen
Jani Vilmunen

Thomas Bichon raised and picked up one caller in Jani Vilmunen from the big blind. On the flop {A-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}, Vilmunen check-called a bet of 9,000 and the {4-Spades} hit on the turn. Vilmunen checked again with a stack of 51,000 and Bichon led for 29,500. The Finn gave it a lot of thought and then moved all in to receive a snap-call by his opponent.

Bichon: {A-Spades}{J-Spades}{9-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}
Vilmunen: {A-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}

Only a four or three could save Vilmunen, but it was the blank {7-Clubs} that sent him to the rail in 5th place and let the bubble burst. Bichon increased his already big lead further and will be opening a lot of hands in the near future.

Lukas Nemec
Lukas Nemec

Lukas Nemec was the initial raiser for 7,000 and Thomas Bichon from one seat over as well as Vasili Firsau in the big blind called. On the flop {A-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{Q-Spades} flop, Firsau check-folded to a bet worth 15,000 by Nemec and Bichon called. The {J-Hearts} on the turn triggered a check from Nemec and a bet worth 35,000 by Bichon.

Nemec check-raised all in for 157,500 and Bichon snap-called with the best hand at that point.

Nemec: {A-Clubs}{J-Clubs}{9-Spades}{8-Diamonds}
Bichon: {A-Spades}{K-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{2-Clubs}

The {2-Diamonds} river ended the tournament of Nemec in sixth place, just short of the money and the remaining five players are now on the bubble.

Holdeew Takes from Nemec

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 0 ante

Jan-Peter Jachtmann raised the turn of a board {6-Spades}{K-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds} from 14,000 to 36,000 and Jani Vilmunen gave up his {10-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} for two pair. Jachtmann held {A-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}{J-Spades}{9-Diamonds} for just a pair of jacks but two huge draws.

Shortly after, Lukas Nemec raised from under the gun with the {A-Hearts}{K-Spades}{Q-Spades}{J-Diamonds} and Dimitri Holdeew defended his big blind with {9-Spades}{7-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{2-Spades}. They checked down the flop {Q-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} and the {5-Clubs} turn. Holdeew then bet the {A-Diamonds} river for 11,000 and Nemec called to see the bad news. The Czech also lost the next small hand in a battle of the blinds as well against Holdeew.

Both players checked the flop {9-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{9-Spades} and the {2-Clubs} turn before Holdeew bet the {7-Diamonds} river for 6,000. The players then headed into a 20-minute break, during which the T-500 chips will be removed from the tournament.

Firsau Stops Downfall

Level 13 : 1,200/2,400, 0 ante

On the heads-up flop of {7-Hearts}{9-Spades}{10-Spades}, Dimitri Holdeew was making a move and reraised Vasili Firsau with the {J-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{2-Clubs} for a pair of jacks and a gutshot. Firsau was having none of it and shot down the previously quiet Holdeew by moving all in and enforcing a fold, holding the {K-Spades}{Q-Spades}{10-Clubs}{6-Clubs} for top pair, a flush draw and double gutshot.
