Not THAT Exciting

There's a player at Table 33 who turned his seat around, stretched his legs out into the aisle, and is slouched there with his eyes closed. He looked to be napping earlier but he was at least facing the table. Now he looks settled in for a nice snooze.

Whoops, he just roused and turned back to the table. I guess playing in a World Series event is enough to hold his attention. For a few moments, at least.

Phil Hellmuth Has Eye on the Prize

I'm sure Phil Hellmuth spent a little more time meditating this morning before he took his seat, the vision of his eleventh bracelet foremost on his mind as he plays every hand. So far he has entered eight events, counting this one.

Hellmuth holds the lead with 58 WSOP cashes, including this year in Event #10, the $2,000 NLH were he took 104th place. Johnny Chan has played four events and Doyle Brunson has played in six events so far. I'm sure they know the world is watching to see who will be the first to win their eleventh. I wonder if there are any side bets and who's the favorite?

Dropping Like Flies

The tournament director just informed the room that there are approximately 65 tables remaining in the tournament, meaning that nearly three-fourths of the field has already been eliminated.

PokerNews Video: Kevin Smith - Writer/Director

PokerNews' Tiffany Michelle caught up with Writer/Director Kevin Smith (Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy) on a smoke break and discussed being recognized at his table, playing in the WSOP, and his personal poker strategy against top pros. A WSOP bracelet? -- a Jedi craves not these things.

Is That Gun Loaded?

Phil Hellmuth is up to around 34,000 and is joking and kidding around with the table. After Phil tried to steal the blinds another player made a re-raise and Phil laid it down. The other player slapped two aces on the table and everyone started laughing as Phil and the other player playfully shoved each other back and forth. "You really can dodge bullets!" another player at the table said.

One does wonder at the wisdom of showing your cards to a player like Hellmuth, but it seems like they just can't resist--and I'm sure Phil appreciates the free information.
