Phil Laak, Class Clown

"Ah, you bet the maximum," says Phil Laak to his opponent (mind you, this is a limit event). "I call." The board read {J-Spades}{7-Clubs}{3-Spades}, and the turn card was the {K-Clubs}. "You bet it again? I just call." The {A-Hearts} fell on the river. "Okay, this time I bet the maxiumum." He tells his opponent, "I have {Q-Hearts}{10-Hearts} or {Q-Spades}{10-Spades}." After some thought, his opponent dumps his hand, and Laak remarks, "Actually, you know I had the set of queens."

Barry's Back at Work

Barry Greenstein's back in the Amazon Room this evening, after a late night session at the final table of the Seven Card Stud event. He said he's dissapointed that he didn't win last night, but he looks re-energized and ready to play today.

Not So Fast, Mr. Ly!

A member of the Rio staff was pushing a cart full of tournament chips past the back row of tables and accidentally dropped a few onto the floor. Minh Ly stood up from his seat to help her pick them up, when Bryan Devinshire yelled out, "Sorry, Minh, you can't use those, they're not the same color as ours."

Minh smiled and continued to help out.

What Do You Think?

An interesting situation developed before the break at Howard Lederer's table. Before making a raise, the UTG player told Howard, who was sitting to his left, that he had seen one of Howard's cards, the {6-Spades}. Howard then turned over the card in question, but it was in fact the {2-Clubs}. In response, the player to Howard's left also turned over a card, showing the {6-Clubs}, assuming that this was the card the UTG was talking about.

The players called for the floor, and requested that they be dealt replacement cards, because theirs had been exposed. The floorman ruled that the players had to keep their original cards, because they were the ones responsible for exposing them.

The decision made The Professor quite unhappy.
