Poker Players Making a Difference

WSOP tournaments require players to maintain focus and concentration for many long hours at a time, which is why the few breaks they are afforded throughout the tournament are so deeply cherished. Most players spend the downtime lounging, eating, or making off-the-wall proposition bets. One group, however, spent their dinner break granting the wish of a special kid named Mitch Maxey.

Mitch suffers from terminal cancer and his doctors haven't given him much time to live. Mitch's wish, made possible through his father's efforts and connections in the poker world, was to play a poker tournament with some of the game's greatest players. In room 1145 of the Rio All-suite Hotel and Casino, Mitch's wish was granted.

The likes of Tom McEvoy, Phil Laak, Greg Raymer, Mike Sexton, Patrick Antonius, Gavin Smith, Isabelle Mercier, Bill Chen, and Michael Mizrachi all joined in to help give Mitch the time of his life.

Mitch won the tournament and each player took time to shake his hand and thank him for being invited to play.

Soccer and golf are some of Mitch's other passions in life and his father Dale took Mitch to watch the Masters live at Augusta. Hats off to Mitch's dad for making the best of an unfortunate set of circumstances.
