One Tough Corner

Two of the top three chip stacks in the room are right next to each other. At table 6 (also the aforementioned Liz Lieu table), seat two is Douglas Miranda, who recently busted Alan Le to add another 30K to his stack. Seat three is Jason Gonong, who has been up near the top of the leaderboard for the last couple hours.

Another Reason to Be Happy

Brandon "Happy" Schaefer just doubled up with A-A vs. K-K, but it took he and his opponent until the river to get all the money in.

A few hands later, Brandon took A-J into a blind-on-blind confrontation, and wound up in against A-9. No help came for his opponent, and Brandon took another 30K down. Brandon Schaefer is up to 119,000.

Mike "Quick" Swick Fighting for a Bracelet

Over the last few years interest in poker went through the roof, and right now mixed martial arts is enjoying a similar spike in popularity. Huge media companies like ESPN now cover major Ultimate Fighting Championship bouts, and their pay-per-view numbers are starting to rival (and overtake) those for boxing.

Mike "Quick" Swick has run up a 11-2 record as a middleweight in the UFC, and now he's trying his hand in another form of combat -- tournament poker. As we approach the money bubble, Swick is still in the hunt with 27,000 in chips. Most fighters dedicate their lives to winning a championship belt, and wouldn't a World Series of Poker bracelet be a perfect companion piece?
