Gowen and Barbieri Eliminated on the Same Hand

Chips were flying in what would be a 4-way pot between Clonie Gowen, Men "The Master," Al Barbieri and an unknown player in the small blind.

Clonie made it 1,200 to go from under the gun and Men called, as did the small blind. Barbieri, who was sitting in the big blind, reraised all-in to 1,800; everyone called.

The flop came {4-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{3-Spades} and the small blind led out with a 600 bet. Clonie made it 1,200 to go and Men Nguyen folded. The small blind then reraised to 1,800 and Clonie called.

The turn brought the {K-Spades}. The small blind bet 1,200, which put Clonie all-in, and she made the call.

These were the players' hands:

Clonie: A-K
Barbieri: K-Q
Small blind: {8-Spades}{9-Spades}

Clonie had taken the lead in the hand on the turn, but when the {A-Spades} fell on the river, the small blind completed his flush draw and both Gowen and Barbieri were eliminated from the tournament.

Patience Pays for Ferguson

It took awhile, but Chris Ferguson finally got the hand he was looking for. From middle position, Ferguson put in a raise and the lone caller was the big blind.

The flop came {10-Spades}{K-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} and the big blind passed to Ferguson who led out with a bet. The big blind then check-raised, prompting Ferguson to three-bet the pot, which put his opponent all-in. The big blind made the call and turned over {8-Clubs}{9-Clubs} for bottom pair; Ferguson showed {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs} for top pair, top kicker.

The turn brought the {7-Clubs}, giving the big blind an open-ended straight draw, but the {2-Spades} on the river ended his hopes of outdrawing Chris.

The hand brought "Jesus" up to 18,000 on the day.

Sebok Calls Opponent with 8-2 Offsuit on the River . . .

. . . and wins!

In a battle of the blinds (Joe Sebok in the big), the small blind completed the bet and Sebok knuckled the table, opting for a cheap flop.

The first three cards off the deck were {6-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{J-Spades}. The small blind bet, Sebok raised, and the small blind called. The turn brought a King and both players checked.

A seven fell on the river and the small blind took one last stab at the pot. Sebok made the call and flipped over 8-2 for nothing but bottom pair with an 8 kicker, which was good enough to take down the pot.

Joe happens to be sitting a few feet away from the PokerNews workstation and overheard me going over the hand with one of our reporters. "He won with 8-2? That's it?" I asked. Joe turned around and said, "I'm that good . . . what more do you want?" -- with a smile, of course.

After the hand, Joe's chip count stood at 36,000.

"The Master" Eliminated

Men "The Master" Nguyen
Men "The Master" Nguyen
On a board showing {5-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}, all Men "The Master" Nguyen could do was watch, as two other players at his table exchanged bets; Men was already all-in.

The turn and river came {3-Spades} and {Q-Clubs}, and the winning hand belonged to one of Men's opponents, who tabled pocket Queens for a set. Men mucked his cards and wished the table luck.

The winner of the hand stopped him before he left, saying, "Men -- thank you . . . . You are a gentleman and a scholar."
