Bonomo Likes the River

Board: {J-Clubs}{7-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{5-Clubs}

Justin Bonomo and his opponent were heads-up on the river. Bonomo led out for 6,000 and his opponent called. After Bonomo showed {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs}, his opponent mucked, and implied his two pair was counterfeited by the river.

More Chips for PokerKat

Kathy "PokerKat" Liebert led out for 500 and had two callers.

Flop: {7-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{4-Clubs}

Liebert led out for 1,100 on the flop and only one player called. The turn was the {10-Clubs} and Kathy checked, but her opponent bet 2,000. Kathy made the call and the turn brought the {7-Spades}. Kathy led out for 10,000 and her opponent folded. After the hand, PokerKat is up to 28,500.

Actions Do Not Speak Louder Than Words

At one table, everyone folds to the small blind, who accidentally says "Six thousand" as he puts out 600 in chips. A floorperson is called over, and he tells the player that he just bet 6,000, and the bet stands.

The player in the big blind says with a gleam in his eye, "I haven't looked at my cards yet." He glances, shows 7-2, and folds. The small blind escapes from his mistake with no damage.

Howard Lederer's No Peek

Howard Lederer raised 600 and both blinds called. The flop was {7-Clubs}{6-Spades}{3-Diamonds}. The small blind bet 700. The big blind folded. Lederer went into the tank for several minutes before he raised to 3,700. The small blind thought about what to do for a minute before he folded A-7 face up.

"Will you show?" he asked Lederer.

Lederer smiled and tossed his cards to the dealer. He's not one to show his cards.

Simon 'Aces' Trumper Survives Quad Jacks

With the board showing {J-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{J-Hearts} on the turn, a player bets 5,000, and Simon 'Aces' Trumper calls. The river card is the {K-Hearts}, and the first player bets 7,000. Trumper thinks for a bit, saying, "There's only one hand that beats me here." He thinks a little longer, and simply calls, leaving himself 2,000 in chips as he shows {K-Clubs}{K-Spades} for top full house on the river.

Most people would have put their last 2,000 in the pot there, but Trumper's read was correct, as his opponent shows {J-Clubs}{J-Diamonds} for quad jacks.

Trumper is down to 2,000, but most players in his situation would already be headed for the exit.

Cracking Aces, Chapter One

After a middle-position player raised to 600 Stephen Feraca re-raised to 1,500 and was called. The flop came {6-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} and when Feraca bet 3,000 the other player moved in for 6,350 in total. Feraca flipped over {A-Clubs}{A-Spades} and his opponent held {A-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} for the nut flush draw. And that draw got there when the {2-Diamonds} hit on the turn. Feraca is now down to 17,500.

Cracking Aces, Chapter Two

Robert Cheung had chipped up to 35,600 before he had the misfortune to run pocket Aces into pocket Kings. We say "misfortune" because his opponent made a runner-runner flush to snatch the pot away and leave Cheung with 21,500 in chips.

Doug Kim Reaps Benefit of Donkey Play of the Day

Doug Kim made it 600 from the big blind and three players called. The flop came {8-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{3-Hearts}. The small blind checked, Kim bet 1,500, the player in early position called, the small blind reraised to 4,000, Kim called and the early position player folded. The small blind bet 10,000 when the {4-Diamonds} came on the turn. Kim pushed and his opponent called all-in for 25,000. Kim turned over {8-Clubs}{5-Clubs} for two pair, but his opponent was out front with {3-Hearts}{3-Spades} for a set. Then the {5-Spades} came on the river and Kim made a higher full house. Kim was clearly happy and shouts out, "I'm a donkey! I'm a donkey! But I'll take it anyway!"
