Racener Drops Down Further

Omaha 8:

And a further blow for Racener. In the small blind against Cernuto in the big, he bet out on the {Q-Diamonds} {2-Spades} {5-Hearts} flop and Cernuto called. They checked down the {4-Diamonds} turn and {Q-Clubs} river, and Cernuto scooped it, leaving Racener with less than 50,000.

Racener: {4-Clubs} {A-Spades} {2-Diamonds} {J-Spades}
Cernuto: {5-Spades} {3-Clubs} {8-Spades} {K-Clubs}

Racener, rather twitchy all day, now looks as though he might cry.

Flushed Away

Stud-8

The banter continues to flow on this final table, most of it deriving from current chip leader Farzad Rouhani who has just increased his lead courtesy of Yueqi Zhu and the small matter of an eight high flush.

Even as the first card was being dealt, the table talk commenced, Chambers asking for confirmation of Rouhani's card across the other side of the felt. "It's an eight," answers Rouhani. "No, in fact, it's a great eight. The best eight in the game so far."

With Chambers getting out of the way on an early street, it was left to Zhu to enter the battlefield, calling down Rouhani all the way, including a blind bet on the final street.

"I love this game," Rouhani would say. "I got you now."

Chambers = {6-Hearts}{J-Clubs}
Rouhani = {8-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}
Zhu = {3-Spades}{8-Hearts}{6-Spades}{9-Diamonds}

Before Rouhani showed what Zhu sensed would be the winning hand, Pappas exclaimed, "Don't turn them too quickly, I reckon I can tell you your hand."

In the end, Rouhani showed {6-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} and added, "Ah, my friend, you read real bad. You were close, but not close enough."

"I knew you were straight flushing," claimed Pappas while Zhu quietly mucked.

Another Split Pot

As is so often the case, these games witness a host of split pots, and Event 10 is no different, today's opening levels experiencing more chops than a Karate Kid film.

The most recent example of this involved Michael Mizrachi and current chip leader Farzah Rouhani.

Mizrachi = {7-Hearts}{8-Spades}{K-Spades}{6-Clubs}
Rouhani = {Q-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{9-Hearts}

It was the Grinder taking the lead by betting two streets and checking the final street. Meanwhile, Rouhani would tease his opponent with comments such as "You still betting then?", "You shouldn't have done that" and "I've got it", but it was all in good spirits.

In the end, Mizrachi took the low with three small cards in the hole (dealer was too quick for me!) whilst Rouani lapped up the high with {Q-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} for queens up.

Racener Suddenly Short

John Racener has been virtually crippled, in the process more or less doubling up John Cernuto in an omaha hand.

Racener raised preflop, and then bet the {3-Hearts} {Q-Spades} {Q-Diamonds} flop. Cernuto raised him, and he called.

They both checked the {6-Diamonds} turn, and Racener bet the {3-Clubs} river. Cernuto raised and Racener called, looking a little upset.

Cernuto turned over {6-Spades} {3-Spades} {A-Hearts} {2-Diamonds} for a full house -- Racener, apparently heartbroken, showed a Queen and mucked the rest of his hand, leaving him on just 75,000.

Miz-step

Omaha-8

Michael Mizrachi is down to 145,000 after calling a flop bet from Yueqi Zhu on a {6-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{3-Spades} board before folding to a bet on the {A-Spades} turn.

Judging by the expression on Mizrachi's face when he folded, it's been a frustrating start to his final table proceedings.

Double-Up for Zhu

Stud-8

Zhu is the lowcard, and brings in. Cernuto completes, and both Rouhani and Zhu call. Zhu bets fourth street and Cernuto calls -- Rouhani folds, but exposes his hole cards and they are shown to the whole table. Cernuto raises and Zhu calls. Zhu raises Cernuto's bet on fifth street, and then bets out on sixth. By seventh street Zhu is all in and Cernuto calls.

Zhu: {2-Spades} {6-Diamonds} {A-Hearts} {4-Spades} with {3-Diamonds} {5-Clubs} {J-Clubs}
Cernuto: {5-Spades} {5-Diamonds} {4-Diamonds} {3-Hearts} with {A-Spades} {5-Hearts} {6-Clubs}
Rouhani: folded {7-Hearts} {8-Hearts} with {2-Diamonds} {3-Clubs} exposed

Zhu scoops the lot with the wheel, and doubles up to around 300,000.

Pappas Mia! Greg Going Down

After starting the day on a second-place 304,000, Greg Pappas has had a rough time of it and now finds himself on just 170,000.

Most of the damage was done by chip monster Farzad Rouhani in a massive stud 8 hand. On sixth street, with {Q-Hearts} {3-Spades} {3-Clubs} {7-Spades} up for Pappas and {5-Hearts} {A-Hearts} {Q-Spades} {K-Spades} up for Rouhani, Rouhani laughed good-naturedly as Pappas raised him. "Are you still betting?" he said, as he reraised him. More chips in the middle come seventh street, and eventually Pappas flipped {Q-Clubs} {A-Clubs} {4-Hearts} for two pair, and Rouhani scooped the lot with {Q-Diamonds} {5-Diamonds} X for a better two pair. Rouhani steams ahead on well over 600,000.

Pappas, now apparently demoralized, dropped a few more chips on the very next hand, calling his bets until fifth street with {4-Spades} {7-Spades} {9-Diamonds} up against Zhu's {7-Clubs} {A-Hearts} {4-Diamonds} before deciding to give it up, and then he lost a few more chips the hand after that to Michael Mizrachi. Pappas now down to 170,000.

Ground & Pound

Stud-8

Michael Mizrachi has been ground down to 225,000 after clashing with John Cernuto for the umpteenth time already this morning, betting the flop and turn of a {7-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{3-Hearts} board before check-calling the {7-Spades} river and being shown {A-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{Q-Hearts} for the win. Mizrachi looks at his cards disappointedly before mucking.

The Two Pros Chop One

Stud-8

Greg Pappas brings in with {2-Spades} showing, Michael Mizrachi throws in 1,200 with {Q-Spades} and John Cernuto completes with {A-Diamonds}. Pappas ducks out of the way, but Mizrachi pays to see another card.

Mizrachi = {Q-Spades}{K-Spades}{7-Spades}{A-Clubs}
Cernuto = {A-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{9-Spades}{5-Hearts}

Mizrachi then bets {K-Spades} to Cernuto's {6-Clubs} and {7-Spades} to {9-Spades}, Cernuto calling both times, before check calling an {A-Clubs} to Cernuto's bet with {5-Hearts}.

With the last cards face down, Mizrachi opts to bet out and, after a momentary dwell, is called by Cernuto. I didn't catch Cernuto's hole cards, but he took the low whilst Mizrachi had the high with {J-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}.
