"Big" Story Today

"Big" Jim Pechac
"Big" Jim Pechac
Without a doubt, the most compelling story in this event so far has been the plight of "Big" Jim Pechac. We touched on this earlier, but here's a quick refresher. Before the end of play yesterday, Pechac had just 1,000 chips remaining, a single, lonely orange chip. Content to call it a tournament, he went all in as the day's play concluded, only to double up, and earn a ticket back for Day Three. As a result, he began play today with 2,000 chips... and the blinds were 3,000-6,000. He was all in countless times in the early going, and survived each and every time, continuing to plod his way up the score sheet. As it sits right now, he has 365,000 in chips. The short stack, yes, but an astounding run nonetheless.

We catch up with Pechac again, as he takes down yet another pot. From the button, he raises first in, and Andrew Brown comes along with the call.

The flop comes {3-Spades} {K-Spades} {7-Diamonds}. Brown checks, Pechac bets, and Brown makes the call.

The turn is the {A-Hearts}. Brown checks again, and Pechac bets once more, only to get check-raised by Brown. Pechac comes over the top, raising all in for his last 20,000. Brown calls, and the hands are turned up:

Pechac: {7-Hearts} {7-Spades} {Q-Clubs} {Q-Hearts}
Brown: {A-Spades} {Q-Spades} {8-Hearts} {3-Hearts}

The river bricks off for Brown, and Pechac scoops another all-in pot with his set of sevens, boosting him up to 450,000.

After the hand, Ted Forrest says simply, "One chip..."

Pechac corrects him, "Two chips today."

Forrest: "Either way, it's a hell of a job."
