Flashing for the Camera

Our cameramen have been walking the tournament floor here in the Amazon room for most of the morning, snapping great pictures of many of the professional players playing today. Some are caught off-guard, while others tend to not notice they're even being snapped. However, a trend has developed today with many of the players making sure to stop what it is they're doing and flash a smile at the camera. Will this be a trend for the entire series? Was Gavin Griffin smiling for the camera, or because he just managed a double-up with A-K? Time will tell.

Chan Ousted

Johnny Chan
Johnny Chan
Johnny Chan, holding pocket eights, has just been eliminated from the field immediately after returning from break. Chan was up over 12,000 chips at one point, but couldn't get much going after that, and was short-stacked at the time he went out.

Bogdanski Triples with Jacks

Facing two all-in players in front of him, Gary "GB205" Bogdanski looked down at {J-Hearts}{J-Clubs} in the small blind and decided that it was a good opportunity to triple up his 4,700-chip stack.

His opponents held A-K and pocket sevens, but the board ran out {5-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{10-Clubs} and Bogdanski's jacks held to triple him up to over 15,000 chips.

Cry 'Havoc!'

A war is brewing between Jin Ju and Rick Ribble Jr. on Table #30. They have tangled on several hands during the last hour. This time Ju took the worst of it. Holding {A-Clubs}{9-Clubs}, she bet 3,000 on a {9-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{2-Spades} flop. Ribble raised her for the rest of his chips to 7,300. She deliberated before calling. Ribble held {2-Clubs}{5-Clubs} for a small two pair. The turn and river were blanks and Ribble scooped the pot.

Ribble currently has about 20,000 chips, while Ju slipped to 7,500.

Ivey Folds the Nuts....Sorta

On a flop of {J-Hearts}{A-Clubs}{J-Spades}, Phil Ivey led out for 500 after the small blind and big blind had both checked. The small blind check-raised all in for 5,075 and the big blind called. Ivey went into the tank, then ultimately folded his hand. The small blind turned over J-5 while the big blind showed A-Q. The turn was the {5-Clubs}, giving the small-blind player a full house, and the river was the {9-Clubs}.

After the hand Ivey was heard saying, "Wow, I folded the best hand, but I would have lost."

Vaughn Eliminates Another

Chris Vaughn is progressing well in today's field and has just taken out another short-stacked opponent. Vaughn had made the call preflop with {3-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} and was happy to race against the {A-Diamonds}{K-Spades} of his opponent.

The board ran out {10-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds} and Vaughn jumped to nearly 17,000 in chips.

He Thinks He Chan, He Thinks He Chan

Terrence Chan is at it again. First, on a flop of {K-Spades}{10-Hearts}{4-Hearts}, a short-stacked opponent pushed all in. Chan called with {10-Spades}{10-Clubs} for a set and his opponent held {K-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}. The turn and river came {A-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} to eliminate his opponent.

The very next hand, Chan raised to 800 and received two calls. On a flop of {A-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{K-Hearts}, Chan bet 1,200 and received one call. The turn of the {2-Spades} was checked around. On the river of the {4-Diamonds}, Chan made a 2,400 bet and his opponent folded.

After these two hands, Chan is around 20,000 in chips.

Erik Siedel Doubles Up

Erik Seidel
Erik Seidel
Preflop, Erik Seidel pushed all in for 1,350 and received one call from a late-position player. Seidel had {A-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds} and his opponent {J-Clubs}{9-Clubs}. Seidel's opponent spiked a jack on the flop of {J-Spades}{3-Spades}{10-Spades}. Seidel then spiked lucky on the turn catching the {Q-Clubs}. The {6-Spades} on the river sealed the hand for Seidel and allowed him to double up to 3,625 in chips.

The Agony of Defeat

Right in front of us, a player was all in on the flop. The turn card came down and the all-in player angrily shouted "NO!"--by far the loudest demonstration of emotion to this point of the day. Action in the surrounding area paused ever so briefly, with players turning to observe the commotion. After a few seconds, a player at a different table shouted "YES!" in response, and the room broke into laughter.

The all-in player was eliminated on the hand.
