"The Razor" Buying Drinks

John Phan has recently eliminated two opponents and now sits with over 38,000 in chips to be among our tournament chip leaders.

In the first hand Phan raised it up with pocket jacks, which held against an opponent who pushed with {K-Clubs}{10-Clubs}. The board ran out {3-Spades}{7-Hearts}{4-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} to send his opponent to the rail.

Soon after, Phan was at it again, this time with pocket nines against his opponent's pocket sevens. Again the board was good to Phan, as it came {A-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{K-Spades}.

"Ship it! Ship it!" came the cry from Phan in delight. "Who wants drinks?"

Phan Claims Another

John Phan is tearing it up at the moment and has just eliminated another player, this time winning a race with pocket fours against a short-stacked opponent with K-7, much to the disgust of the rest of the table who simply have no answers for Phan at the moment.

Phan now sits with over 50,000 chips to be our clear chip leader.

Lawson Makes Nice Laydown

Facing an early-position all-in raise, Ted Lawson went into the tank, clearly in distress at the thought of folding his holding. He eventually said, "It hurts!" before tossing his cards into the muck.

"Don't show me ace-king," quipped Lawson, but it turned out to be the right fold as his opponent flashed {K-Diamonds}{K-Spades}!

Lawson in still in good shape with about 19,000 in chips.

Gowen's Rockets Hold

On a board of {Q-Spades}{7-Hearts}{3-Spades}{4-Clubs}, Clonie Gowen went all in for her last 4,900 chips. Her opponent, who had her covered, called. Gowen showed pocket aces, which were a considerable favorite over her opponent's pocket tens. The river was a harmless {5-Spades}.

Gowen now has approximately 16,000 chips.

Phan's Rush Ends With Quads

"The Razor" John Phan has been attempting to knock out his entire table and had been doing a pretty good job of it so far -- however, sure enough, he was going to lose a race sometime.

Phan called the all-in bet of his opponent preflop with K-J, but needed help against pocket eights. The door card delivered that help, but the rest of the flop wasn't good to Phan as it came {J-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{8-Hearts} to remarkably give his opponent flopped quads! The turn {9-Hearts} and river {A-Spades} sent Phan back down to earth to about 38,000 in chips.

Tran Rivered

Kenny Tran
Kenny Tran
At Kenny Tran's table, the under-the-gun player put in an opening raise to 1,100. Everyone folded, except for Tran, who called from the cutoff position.

The flop revealed {5-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{10-Clubs}, and the original raiser continued out for 2,200 more chips. Kenny Tran reached for his own chips and jammed it up to 7,000. His opponent re-shoved for just a small amount more, and Tran made the call, showing {Q-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}. It was a good read by Tran, as the other player was still waiting to hit the board with his {K-Hearts}{J-Hearts}.

The turn card, {8-Hearts}, gave him plenty of outs, and salvation came on the river when the {K-Spades} took a fairly large pot out of Tran's grasp. After the loss, Kenny Tran has taken a step back to approximately 20,000 chips remaining.

Phan vs Mortensen

On a flop of {7-Spades}{K-Spades}{4-Spades}, John Phan led out with a 2,000 bet which Carlos Mortensen called. The turn brought the {3-Clubs} and Phan fired a second barrel worth 2,500, and once again Mortensen made a stand against the chip leader and made the call.

The river brought the {3-Spades} and Phan fired for a third time with a bet of another 2,500. Mortensen made the call, but quickly mucked his hand as Phan showed {J-Spades}{J-Hearts} for a rivered flush.

Following the hand Phan holds over 60,000 in chips, while Mortensen is now struggling with about 7,000.
