Hellmuth Decides to Play

Phil Hellmuth, in typical Hellmuth fashion, decided to wait until two and a half hours into today's event to arrive. He showed up wearing a racing jacket, introduced himself to everyone at his table, and took his seat directly to the left of Mekhi Phifer. Due to the late registration versus late arrival rule, Phil's chip stack has been dwindled down to 1,900.

Jennifer Tilly Eliminated

Tilly Out
Tilly Out
It was a battle of the blinds between Jennifer Tilly and Denny Lee. On a flop of {Q-Spades}{J-Spades}{9-Spades}, Tilly pushed all in for 1,275 and her opponent made the call. Tilly showed {10-Clubs}{8-Hearts} for the flopped straight and Lee showed {J-Hearts}{10-Spades} for a pair of jacks and a straight-flush draw. The {Q-Hearts} helped neither player, but a {6-Spades} on the river completed Lee's flush and sent Tilly over to watch her boyfriend Phil Laak play in today's Pot-Limit Hold'em final table.

No Flush Coming

On a flop of {3-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{A-Hearts}, Andy Black called the all-in bets of two of his opponents. The players' cards were:

Black: {7-Hearts}{8-Hearts}
Opponent #1: {A-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}
Opponent #2: {A-Spades}{K-Spades}

Neither the turn {J-Spades} nor the river {3-Diamonds} improved Black's hand. The other two players chopped the pot with a full house, threes full of aces.

Because Black had both of his opponents covered, he remains in the tournament with approximately 5,500 chips.

Erick Lindgren Eliminated

Erick Lindgren Eliminated
It was a short day for Erick Lindgren. Lindgren got the last of his chips in the middle on a {Q-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{6-Spades} flop against fellow Full Tilt pro David Singer. It was unclear what Lingren held, but what is certain is that by showdown it failed to beat the {K-Hearts}{Q-Hearts} of Singer.

Eli Elezra Eliminated

Eli Elezra limped from early position and Toto Leonidas pushed all of his 1,700-chip stack from middle position. The action folded back to Elezra who made the call.

Elezra: {A-Hearts}{K-Spades}
Leonidas: {J-Spades}{J-Diamonds}

The board ran out {5-Hearts}{9-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{5-Clubs} and Leonidas doubled up to leave Elezra crippled.

A few hands later Elezra had the last of his chips in on a flop of {Q-Spades}{J-Clubs}{5-Hearts}. Elezra held {A-Diamonds}{A-Hearts} but trailed the {Q-Hearts}{J-Hearts} of Roland Rint. The turn brought the {10-Diamonds} and the river {9-Diamonds} to eliminate Elezra from today's event.

Jacks in Spades

An early-position player raised to 550. Vivek Rajkumar, in middle position, reraised to 1600. A player behind Rajkumar reraised all in for 3,825. The initial raiser folded but Rajkumar made the call, getting almost 3:1 on his money. The hands:

Rajkumar: {K-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}
Opponent: {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}

Two jacks on the flop were enough for Rajkumar to take down the pot and knock out his opponent. His stack is now approximately 13,500.

Black Elimi...Not So Fast

Andy Black was down to his last 900 in chips and pushed all in with {A-Spades}{Q-Hearts}. He received a call from an opponent holding {J-Hearts}{J-Spades}. The flop and turn did not help Black, and Black started to leave until a Q hit the river, propelling him to around 2,250 in chips.

Record Breaking Event...Officially

All the numbers are officially in and Event #2 of the World Series of Poker has broken all kinds of $1,500-event records. Event #2 broke the record for most players in attendance, outside of the Main Event, with 3,929 players, as well as a record-breaking prize pool with $5,363,085. The top 378 players will be paid, with 378th getting $2,949 and first place taking home a very nice purse of $831,462.

Many had predicted that this year's World Series of Poker would see a significant decrease in attendance, but thus far those predictions couldn't be further off.
