Crazy Eights

James Akenhead puts in an opening raise to 42,000. Play folds around to the cutoff position, and Evan McNiff announces, "Raise." He slides almost all of his chips forward, leaving just one straggler on top of his cards. As the dealer prepares to spread the flop, Akenhead turns over his hand, {8-Hearts}{8-Clubs}, not realizing that his opponent is not fully all in.

After taking some camera time, McNiff musters an, "I guess so," and tosses his last chip into the pot, coyly tabling {10-Spades}{10-Clubs}.

The dealer spreads the community cards: {9-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}. The turn is the {A-Clubs}, and lightning strikes on the river as the {8-Spades} falls, giving Akenhead a set, and eliminating Evan McNiff.

After doubling up, James Akenhead now stands at 720,000.
