Play Slows

The play has slowed down a little over the last 15-20 minutes. Players now realize they are within sight of a cash finish and have tightened up their play accordingly. We may end up falling just short of the money stage this evening.

David Pham Eliminated

Are you serious? You have the straight?
Are you serious? You have the straight?
On a board of {Q-Spades} {3-Spades} {9-Hearts} {10-Clubs}, David Pham put the last of his chips into the pot and was called. Pham showed {J-Spades} {Q-Hearts} for top pair, but his opponent showed {K-Clubs} {J-Hearts} for the king high straight. Pham would need a king on the river to chop the pot. A king did not come and David Pham is eliminated from today's event.

A player over at table two just sneezed loudly and a player at table one in a NY Rangers jersey said, "bless you." The player at table two went, "Thank you, although I don't like the rangers." The player at table one gave him a look as to say, "what was that about?" The player at two says, "What can I do, I'm a devils fan."

Harmetz Bad Beat Costs Chip Lead

Dan Harmetz opened with a raise to 3,500 from the button before 'Bo' Plyler in the big blind made a massive overbet raise for all of his 56,000 chips.

Harmetz snap-called with {A-Diamonds}{A-Hearts} to be well in front of the {8-Spades}{8-Diamonds} of Plyler.

The flop was a safe {Q-Spades}{K-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} but a cruel {8-Clubs} gave Plyler a two-outer set to the disbelief of Harmetz.

The {6-Clubs} on the river gave Plyler a huge double up and the tournament chip lead with about 120,000 while Harmetz was shell-shocked and left with just 2,000 in change.
