Cards are in the Air

70 players returned for day 2 and will be fighting for one of the top 40 spots. Our winner will take home over $135,000. Notables in the field include: Men the Master, Greg Mueller, Amnon Filippi, and Sam Grizzle.

We have a 100 ante, 200 bring in, and 600/1200 limits.

First Eliminations

Day 2 has claimed its first victims. Short-stacked Suzie Matzura and John Womack were sent to the rail on the first hand of the day. Sixty more eliminations and we will have our final table.

Barbara Lewis Out

Barbara Lewis was just eliminated by Richard Venturella. Lewis got all her chips in with X-X / {K-Hearts} {9-Diamonds} {K-Diamonds}. Venturella was showing X-X / {J-Clubs} {2-Clubs} {10-Hearts}. Lewis got the {3-Diamonds} on 4th street and Venturella the {J-Diamonds}. The hands were turned and Venturella was already filled up with {2-Spades} {2-Hearts} in the hole. Lewis was drawing dead and left the Brasilia room.

Kotler Takes One from Grizzle

Sam Grizzle started the day on the wrong end of a big pot. He called the bets of Jeremy Kottler on every street through fifth street. On sixth street, Grizzle's board showed x-x / {6-Diamonds} {9-Clubs} {8-Diamonds} {9-Hearts} against Kottler's x-x / {K-Spades} {5-Clubs} {4-Diamonds} {2-Diamonds}. With first action, he elected to bet, and Kottler called. Grizzle checked the river dark. When Kottler bet, Grizzle squeezed his river card, raised his eyebrows and folded.

After the hand, Grizzle slipped to 20,500 chips while Kottler climbed to 16,000.

Full Nelson

Mike Nelson took a monster pot away from Katja Thater and Alan Zarka. The trip had at least one bet on every street and all three stayed until 7th street building a monster pot.

Nelson tabled a straight and stacked the pot, bringing his chip count to 25,000.

Kalpakis Rolled Up

Rolled up fours must have looked pretty good to Danny Kalpakis. They must have looked even better when fourth street and fifth street both came aces to make him a full house. He got Alan Zarka, showing a board of x-x / {10-Hearts} {J-Spades} {9-Hearts} {Q-Spades}, to call his bets on every street to the river. Kalpakis' full house was best.

Jerry Buss Eliminates Ralph Perry

Ralph Perry had a quick Day 2. He was all in on third street against Jerry Buss. Buss started with three spades: {A-Spades} {9-Spades} / {3-Spades} and drew into two pairs, nines and fours, by the river. Perry never exposed his full hand. He showed a board of {10-Hearts} {9-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds} {5-Hearts}, peeked at his down cards, and mucked. He is out of the tournament.

Buss is up to 15,000.
