Hits Keep Coming for Cantu

We just posted that Brandon Cantu continues to shove all in on every hand. For the fourth consecutive hand, Cantu shoved and again it was folded around. The hand immediately after, Cantu shoves in again and a single opponent took some time to mull over the decision.

"If you're trying to get a read on me, I've been shoving in every hand," Cantu said.

The opponent eventually called and turned over {Q-Clubs} {K-Hearts} to Cantu's {J-Spades} {K-Diamonds} . For a brief moment, Cantu appeared to be reversing his luck when the flop came {8-Clubs} {J-Diamonds} {9-Spades}, giving Cantu top pair. The turn brought the {10-Clubs} and Cantu was forced to rebuy again.

Immediately after, Cantu shoved all in yet again, but no one called. He seems to have slowed down for now, though there's only 20 minutes left in the rebuy period.

Cantu Being Hit Hard

Brandon Cantu is seated at Orange 19, the table known for multiple players going all in on nearly every hand. Cantu hasn't had much luck in those races, and although action has slowed down at his table, he's still taking some rough beats.

On a flop of {Q-Spades} {4-Spades} {10-Hearts} , Cantu led out for 800 after an early-position player checked. A player last to act pushed all in for 4,000 and Cantu made the call. Cantu turned over {Q-Clubs} {2-Spades} for top pair while his opponent showed {10-Clubs} {K-Clubs} for middle pair. The turn brought the {K-Diamonds} and Cantu failed to improve, forcing another rebuy. On the very next hand, Cantu shoved all in and had zero calls from his table, only to turn over pocket aces.

"It doesn't matter what I've got. If it's good or bad, it's coming out bad."

Jamie Gold Being Jamie Gold

Jamie Gold
Jamie Gold
After a {5-Diamonds} {5-Spades} {2-Hearts} flop, 2006 World Champion Jamie Gold raised to 500 and started begging J.J. Liu to go "all in, all in!!" Instead she raised to 1,500 and Gold called, saying "OK, I'll pay you off."

When the {K-Hearts} fell on the turn Gold chose to move all in himself and Liu insta-called, showing {5-Spades} {9-Clubs} for trips to Gold's pocket tens.

"That's OK," Gold said. "The ten is coming."

The card on the river? The {10-Clubs} .

Get Out the Straitjackets

We're seeing some Level 9, hyper-meta poker being played today. Nenad Medic and Amit Makhija, along with three other players, went all in blind. Then they did it again the next hand.

Phil Ivey is sitting with $100,000 in casino chips in front of him. I would like to remind you that this is a $1,000 rebuy event.

Steve Sung, who is in for at least $17,000 already, has finally won a few pots and now has around 20,000 in chips. His lunatic play moved Sorel Mizzi to say, "I've never seen somebody crazier than me in a rebuy tournament. Congratulations, son."

Bad Flop for Lindgren

Erick Lindgren found himself all in against two opponents. Lindgren was holding pocket jacks while his opponents held A-Q and A-K. The flop came {5-Clubs} {4-Spades} {A-Spades} and Layne Flack, seated at the same table, quipped, "you couldn't even fade the door card".

Lindgren shrugged it off and purchased another rebuy.

Empty Tables Remain

With nearly 50 minutes left before the rebuy period ends, there are still 11 completely empty tables left in the Orange section. We were told earlier that these empty seats are waiting for players still trying to register for this event. If so, these players have less than 50 minutes to play within the rebuy phase of this tournament.

Gavin Feeling Good

The room has been electric for today's event, with almost every player seemingly excited to get their money into the middle for the chance to double up. Just after the announcement was made for the blinds to go up, Gavin Smith smiled at his tablemates and said, "Good, now we can win even bigger pots."

Won't Be Needing This...

Tony Licastro was all in with pocket sevens against his opponent's pocket queens. The flop and turn brought no help and Licastro stood to reach into his pocket for a rebuy...when a seven spiked on the river to save him a grand.

The Mouth Proves Useful

Mike 'The Mouth' Matusow
Mike 'The Mouth' Matusow
Though many players have been insulted and annoyed with Mike "The Mouth" Matusow's loud voice, there's one player at his table who especially appreciated it today. After seemingly being rivered by another opponent, a player who was all in grabbed his gear and headed away from the table. No one seemed to notice his departure, as he was nearly three tables away when Matusow had to yell, "Hey!" at the top of his lungs. The player turned around and Matusow yelled "It was a ten on the river, not a nine!" The player started walking back towards his seat to find his winnings waiting for him.
