The Anonymous Ramblings of the Average Poker Player

With the action picking up, the emotions of some of these players are starting to show. All of the following statements have been overheard recently in the Amazon Room.

"That might be the worst play I've ever seen."

"How do you call that...you can't possibly think you're good."

"This is the fifth time today you've dealt me this trash!"

"The blinds are what...100/200? and you're gonna risk your whole stack with that move?"

"I almost called you with queen-high there," said one player. "It was good," replied the other.

"I reraise," said a player after action had been checked to him.

Arrested on Charges of Counterfeiting

That's probably what Roland de Wolfe thinks should happen to Richard Kirsch in a pot that cost him 2/3 of his stack. All the money went in after a {K-Hearts} {7-Hearts} {2-Diamonds} flop and de Wolfe's {K-Spades} {2-Spades} had outflopped Kirsch's {K-Diamonds} {Q-Spades}. But after the {8-Diamonds} turned the {7-Diamonds} paired the board and counterfeited de Wolfe's bottom pair. Kirsch's queen played, he won the pot, and de Wolfe is down to 8,000 while Richard sits with 18,000.

Anna Wroblewski is Out

After joking that she believed she was going to win today's tournament, Anna Wroblewski has been eliminated from it. She was down to around 3,000 and, after an early raise, she moved all in from the small blind with {A-Spades} {9-Hearts}. The big blind then moved in himself holding pocket tens, and when the door card was another ten, Anna's day came to an end.

Race to the Exits

We started today with 2,693 players. Four hours later we're down to 1,120. After some sophisticated calculations we've figured that we've lost about six and a half players a minute since we started. I know you can't literally lose half a player (that would be extremely messy) but the point is that attrition has already taken a heavy toll on the field.

Go Big or Go Home

The yell of "seat open" is becoming more and more frequent. In the orange section alone, that phrase has been yelled at least three dozen times since the start of level five.

Roland de Wolfe Eliminated

Not so long ago, Roland de Wolfe was near the top of our chip counts. And now he's out. After losing that big hand to Richard Kirsch just before the break, Kirsch applied the final blow when he limped into the pot and de Wolfe moved all in for his last 5,000. Kirsch called with {J-Spades} {J-Clubs} to Roland's {A-Hearts} {3-Spades}, and when the {J-Diamonds} {6-Clubs} {9-Diamonds} flop gave Kirsch top set it meant the end of de Wolfe.

"Dude Where's My Stack?"

Alex Jacob
Alex Jacob
Alex Jacob, who is playing both this event and the $1,500 H.O.R.S.E. tournament, is currently on break and ran over to play his dwindling stack in this tournament. Jacob's table had been broken and his stack moved and he was pacing about the orange section somewhat frantically trying to find it. He eventually spotted one of our reporters and tracked his seat down. Jacob is currently on about 3,000 chips.
