Gary Biggar Doubles Through Andrey Zaichenko

Action folded around to Gary Biggar in the small blind and he pushed all in for 123,000. Andrey Zaichenko called from the big blind and the players showed:

Biggar: {A-Diamonds} {8-Clubs}
Zaichenko: {K-Hearts} {7-Diamonds}

The board ran out {A-Clubs} {9-Hearts} {7-Spades} {10-Hearts} {2-Diamonds} and Biggar's aces were best. He doubled to about 260,000 chips and left Zaichenko with roughly 960,000.

Lars Sundberg Eliminated in 16th Place ($21,688)

Action folded around to Lars Sundberg in late position and he shoved all in for 145,000. Joachim Berg-Jensen made the call from the big blind and the players showed:

Sundberg: {A-Clubs} {8-Hearts}
Berg-Jensen: {7-Clubs} {7-Spades}

The board ran out {10-Diamonds} {5-Hearts} {9-Spades} {3-Hearts} {J-Hearts} and Berg-Jensen's pair held up. Sundberg was left with just ace-high and a card for 16th place. Berg-Jensen sits on 310,000 chips after the hand.

A Long Way to Go, and Yet...

We're playing down to the final table in tonight's event and, of course, the Main Event looms on the horizon. But right now we're seeing (and hearing) a reminder that much of the 2008 World Series of Poker is already in the history books. Maintenance workers are (noisily) breaking down the poker tables in the Brasilia Room and are clearing them away. Looks like this will be the last poker played in Brasilia this year, and this room was a HUGE improvement over the Poker Pavilion tent used last year.

Farzad Rouhani Doubles Through Cody Slaubaugh

From the cutoff Cody Slaubaugh raised to 52,000 and Farzad Rouhani reraised to 200,000. Slaubaugh then moved all in for an additional 180,000 and with just 75,000 more to call Rouhani went into the tank for a bit before announcing a call.

After thinking for so long he surprised many in the crowd by turning over {Q-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds} to Slaubaugh's {A-Diamonds} {K-Spades}. The board ran out {4-Hearts} {6-Hearts} {9-Clubs} {10-Diamonds} {J-Spades} and Slaubaugh was left with just 95,000 after losing that hand. "Wow," Rouhani said as he scooped the 710,000 pot.

Gary Biggar Doubles Through Andrey Zaichenko

Action folded around to Gary Biggar in the cutoff seat. He capped his cards and pondered his options. While he thought, Andrey Zaichenko asked him "is this it?" (Biggar has gotten into the habit of saying "this is it" anytime he put a lot of chips into the pot.)

After a bit, Biggar moves all in for 293,000. Action was then on Zaichenko on the button and he reraised all in for about 900,000. The blinds passed and the players showed:

Biggar: {A-Diamonds} {K-Clubs}
Zaichenko: {K-Hearts} {Q-Clubs}

The flop came {Q-Spades} {8-Hearts} {6-Diamonds} sending Biggar from first to worst. His tournament life hung in the balance as he watched the {J-Hearts} hit the turn. The dealer quickly laid the {A-Hearts} on the river prompting Biggar to shout, almost involuntarily "this IS it!....this IS it!!" a few times. The dealer pushed the pot and Biggar looked around and said "the ace is a god."

He's up to about 620,000 chips while Zaichenko falls to just over 600,000.

Elliot Smith Eliminated in 14th Place ($29,035)

Smith raised to 50,000 from the cutoff and Corwin Cole popped it to 200,000 from the small blind. Smith moved in for his last 250,000 and Cole called. He showed {8-Hearts} {8-Clubs} to Smith's {A-Hearts} {K-Hearts} and once again Big Slick lost the race, as after the {Q-Clubs} {5-Diamonds} {6-Clubs} came on the flop Cole hit a set when the {8-Spades} turned. The {5-Hearts} on the river was meaningless and Smith was out in 14th place. Cole is now up to 1.195 million.

Joachim Berg-Jensen Eliminated in 13th Place ($29,039)

Dan Heimiller raised to 65,000 from under the gun. Action folded around to Joachim Berg-Jensen in the small blind and he pushed all in for 255,000. Heimiller made the call and the players showed:

Heimiller: {Q-?} {Q-?}
Berg-Jensen: {A-?} {K-?}

The ladies held for Heimiller as the board ran out {10-Diamonds} {6-Hearts} {4-Clubs} {2-Clubs} {3-Diamonds}. Berg-Jensen was eliminated and Heimiller chipped up to about 1,150,000.
