Hellmuth Lays Down a Hand

Phil Hellmuth
Phil Hellmuth
After the player in the cutoff limped into the pot, Phil Hellmuth raised to 2,600 from the small blind. The cutoff then reraised to 10,000, putting Hellmuth back on the boil.

"You know I have something right? But you think I'm weak," Hellmuth said as he riffled his remaining chips.

Hellmuth eventually mucked {A-Hearts}{J-Spades} face up. He's down to 7,025.

While Hellmuth's hand was happening, Tiffany Michelle was eliminated from the event.

Hellmuth Eliminated

Phil Hellmuth was knocked out of the event after pushing preflop with a pair of fives. He got called by the big blind holding {10-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}, and was eliminated when the board ran {10-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{7-Spades}{8-Spades}{2-?}.

Break

Players are heading out on the last 20-minute break of the night. We will play just two more levels before tonight's action.

Level: 9

Blinds: 400/800

Ante: 100

We're Back

There are 286 players remaining at the start of this level. We'll be playing for two more hours before Day 1 ends.

Seidel's Incentive

Erik Seidel
Erik Seidel
We caught up with Erik Seidel on the break, who says WSOP Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack has given him extra incentive to win this event.

According to Seidel, Pollack has promised to play Marvin Gaye's version of the National Anthem if Seidel wins. "It will be like winning two bracelets," he said.

Elky Goes Bust

Bertrand Grospellier pushed his short stack in under the gun and got called by the button. Grospellier showed {A-Diamonds}{2-Spades} and was up against {A-Spades}{K-Diamonds}.

When the board ran out {5-Hearts}{A-Clubs}{4-Spades} Elky picked up some outs, but neither the {4-Hearts} on the turn or the {6-Hearts} on the river were the cards he needed.
