Soul Man

During the last hour, Fabrice Soulier quietly climbed up the chip counts to overtake the chip lead from Dutch Boyd. Soulier was at it again just back from break. He eliminated a short stack by making three jacks. That pot pushed Soulier to 103,000, the first player to cross the century mark.

Grizzle at it Again

Sam Grizzle's been moved to a new table, Brasilia #181. Players there include "Miami" John Cernuto, John Juanda and David Levi. Levi was the antagonist in a pot with Grizzle, with Levi leading all the way to sixth street. Both players checked sixth and seventh streets. Levi showed down {A-Clubs} {10-Spades} / {A-Diamonds} {7-Diamonds} {Q-Clubs} {4-Hearts} / {J-Diamonds} to take down the pot with a pair of aces.

Levi is sitting comfortable with 72,000. Grizzle, meanwhile, hasn't been able to do much today but hover around 30,000.

Checking in on the Champ

Last year, the bracelt in this event was contested between Al "Sugar Bear" Barbieri and Mike Rocco. Rocco proved the victor after a lengthy heads-up battle.

No sign of Sugar Bear here on Day 2, but Rocco is in the field with a stack of 30,000 chips. That's just slightly above the 27,000-chip average stack. It's still a long way to the final table (heck, it's a long way to the money) but we'll keep an eye on Rocco to see if he can make another deep run.

Mizrachi Eliminated

It didn't take long. Just a few hands after being crippled by Dutch Boyd, Michael Mizrachi was all in on third street against Helmut Koch. Mizrachi started {K-Diamonds} {3-Diamonds} / {A-Clubs} against Koch's {k-Hearts} {7-Clubs} / {6-Hearts}. Koch made an open pair of tens going into the river; Mizrachi paired his king. On the river, Koch pulled a second pair, sixes. Mizrachi squeezed out his last card but couldn't find a second pair of his own.

Mizrachi, who earlier told Sam Grizzle that he was playing for the bracelet, will have to try his luck in other events during this WSOP.

Recent Elimination

Eli Elezra - eliminated
Eli Elezra - eliminated
Eli Elezra (wearing a fantastic hat) has joined the gallery on the rail. No joy in this tournament for Elezra; his 2009 WSOP bracelet quest will have to wait for the Limit Omaha Hi/Lo championship that just started on the other side of the room.

The Bubble Approaches

We're on the last table to be eliminated before the money bubble bursts. Eight more players will leave this tournament without any money. The rest of the field will earn at least $2,400. The latest player to go home empty-handed is 2008 bracelet winner Rep Porter.
