Daniel Negreanu
After a player in the cutoff opened to 2,500, Daniel Negreanu reraised all in to 27,000 from the button. The small blind folded, Doug Lee called from the big blind, and the cutoff got out of the way.
Lee showed , and Negreanu . The flop came , giving Negreanu the lead. But the on the turn meant Kid Poker had suddenly gone from way ahead to way behind. The on the river gave Negreanu two pair, but it was not enough to overcome Lee's set. Negreanu is out, and Lee now has 178,000.
Johnny Chan raises to 2,500 from middle position and Vanessa Rousso calls from the cut off. Steven Weinstein, in the small blind, then makes it 10,000 to go. Chan folds and Rousso calls.
The flop comes and both players check. The turn is the and Weinstein checks again. Rousso makes a bet of 10,000 and she is quickly called. The river brings the and they check it down. Weinstein shows and Rousso mucks her cards.
The Phil Hellmuth show is back in town ladies and gentlemen and sparks are already flying over at Table 70 where he tangled in a pot with Terry Bailey.
On a flop of , Hellmuth bet 10,000 and Bailey called. Both players checked the on the turn but when the river fell the , Bailey raised Hellmuth's 11,000 bet to 25,000.
"It's too early to be taking bad beats in this tourney!" spat Hellmuth as he stood up from his seat. After a bit more hemming and hawing, he decided to call... and it was a good one.
Bailey showed for a bluff with nothing but a pair of sixes, while Hellmuth took down the pot with . Bailey was left with only 52,000 while Hellmuth is over the 165K mark.
Matt Glantz just eliminated an opponent when his outraced his shorter-stacked foe's pocket kings. An ace flopped, and a queen came on the turn. Glantz's hand held up, and he has now pushed up to 255,000.
With a board showing , David Chiu and Neil Chris exchanged a series of reraises that finally ended when Chris was all in. Chiu showed for the rivered boat, but unfortunately for him Chris had to take the pot.
After flirting with the quarter million-chip mark, Chiu is now down to 83,000, while Chris moves up to 240,000.
Eric Liu
It was unfortunately a short day for CardRunners pro Eric Liu, who just busted courtesy of Mark Seif.
With the board reading on the turn, Seif led out for 22,000, Liu moved all in and Seif made the call. Liu showed for two pair while Seif flipped up for a pair and an open-ended straight draw. A third eight spiked on the river for Seif, making him a set and eliminating Liu from the tournament.
Seif is now up to 290,000 and is among the chip leaders.
The table folded around to Nicolas Levi who raised to 4,200 from the small blind. Then Shannon Shorr reraised to 11,200 from the big blind. Levi shoved all in for 70,000 total, and Shorr called with his remaining 33,000. Levi showed and Shorr .
Things looked bleak for Shorr after the flop came , but the came on the turn, giving Shorr his set. The river was the , and Shorr doubled up to 77,000. Levi slipped to 36,000.
On a board of Danny Alaei bets 26,000. Roger Sippl reraises to 60,000 and Alaei moves all in for 80,200 more. Sippl folds and Alaei takes down the pot.
