Almost Set for Round Two

We're just a few minutes away from the start of Round 2 of the $10,000 Heads-Up World Championship. The players have just begun to take their seats, and we expect to be underway sharply at 10:00.

Back at It

Cards are in the air, and we're underway in the Round of 128! Each player begins with the 60,000 chips they accumulated in the first round.

All Alone

Jason Mercier is all alone on Table 227, as his opponent, Jesper Petersen has not shown up to play yet. Mercier is sporting sunglasses today, and he looks almost sad as he gazes around the room in search of his counterpart.

The Real Justin Smith

Justin "Boosted J" Smith just arrived a few minutes late, and he was a bit surprised at what he saw when he walked up to his table. His match with Hoyt Corkins was already underway with someone else sitting in his seat. It's still not exactly clear who it is, but we notice that ElkY doesn't have an opponent yet, so it may well be that James D'Ambrosio sat down at the wrong table. You can't blame him for not wanting to play ElkY, can you?

The floor staff is trying to figure out exactly what to do about this. We'd guess that Hoyt and Justin will have to restart their match from the beginning.

Dwan vs. Stein: Dwan Jumps Out to a Big Lead

Tom Dwan bet out 2,000 on a flop of {8-Spades} {7-Hearts} {3-Diamonds}. His opponent, Samuel Stein, made the call.

Fourth street brought the {Q-Diamonds}. Durrrr fired again, this time sliding out 4,800 chips. Stein again called.

The river came the {5-Clubs}, and Dwan wasn't slowing down now. He splashed out 13,200 chips, and Stein payed him off.

Dwan tabled {7-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds}, and it was the winner. In the first level of this match, Dwan has already taken a commanding chip lead, sitting with 85,000.

Musical Chairs

The mystery is solved. It was indeed James D'Ambrosio who was occupying Boosted J's seat. He had dropped about 7,000 chips to Hoyt Corkins by the time Smith showed up, and that just wasn't going to work. The floor decided to let Smith and Corkins start from the top with even stacks. D'Ambrosio has now walked over to his correct seat in front of Bertrand Grospellier, and their match has commenced as well.

Across the room, Jesper Petersen is also in his seat now, and Jason Mercier finally has someone to play against.

Dragan Galic Advances

Dragan Galic has already polished off his opponent, becoming the first player to advance to tomorrow's third round. Daniel Illingworth took care of Gus Hansen in the first round, but Galic proved to be to much for him to handle in the second heat.
