Not So Masterful

Men "The Master" Nguyen has been eliminated
Men "The Master" Nguyen has been eliminated
On a flop of {K-Diamonds} {8-Clubs} {5-Clubs}, Men "The Master" Nguyen got in a raising battle with an opponent. Men was short stacked and found himself all in with just a few bets.

"I just want to go home," said Nguyen as the players revealed their hands. Nguyen held {Q-Hearts} {J-Clubs} {7-Diamonds} {3-Clubs} and his opponent showed {K-Hearts} {K-Clubs} {7-Clubs} {4-Clubs}. Upon seeing what his opponent held, Men went on to say, " Oh, I might get the low."

The turn came the {3-Diamonds} and then the river came the {3-Hearts}. Nguyen was able to make trip threes, but his opponent's full house was better and sent The Master to the rail.

Can't Even Win With Five Cards

Over at Justin Phillips' table, there was a pot involving Phillips and two other players. One of the players was all in and at the showdown when all three players revealed their holdings, the all-in player noticed he had five cards instead of four. The floor was called over to the table and the ruling was that the five-card hand was a dead hand. Because he hand was declared dead, the player was eliminated. Phillips and the third player in the hand then chopped up the pot.

An Update from the Hinterlands

We just wandered back from checking out some of the action over in the Brasilia Room where a number of the big names pros are playing.

Some notables include Chris "Jesus" Ferguson and Andy Bloch, both of whom are sitting on about 2,000 chips. Gavin Smith is doing a little better, with about 6,000, though he was up at around 9K at the break.

Daniel Negreanu is sitting on a 10K stack and chatting with Phil Hellmuth, who just took his seat at the neighboring table.

Matusow Absent

There's an empty chair where Mike "The Mouth" Matusow was sitting, but his chips are still stacked on the table. He only has about 3,000 chips and has jumped over to play the $40,000 tournament he is still in across the room.

"O! Say Can You See"

The presentation of the first gold bracelet just occurred for the Casino Employees Event. As a new tradition this year, the national anthem of the winner will be played following each bracelet presentation. As the United States national anthem roared through the sound system here in the Amazon room, almost every player and dealer stood from their chairs. Of course, a few players kept playing in the hands they were involved in, but many stopped in honor.

Upon a loud roar of cheers after the anthem concluded, tournament director Jack Effel thanked everyone for standing during the national anthem and mentioned that the staff wasn't quite sure on whether or not they would ask people to stand. On their own, most people did so, to which Effel said, "Thank you very much for all standing. You are the reason poker players are so special and what makes the WSOP."

Mind you, the clock did not stop during the anthem, but with respect to everyone, the staff has added three minutes back onto the clock.

Erick Lindgren still hasn't returned to his seat, while Marcel Luske is sitting on a shortening stack a few tables away.

Max Pescatori has a healthy chip stack of about 7,700, but he and fellow Italian pro Dario Alioto are both jonesing for a free WiFi connection. "I'm OK for about 30 minutes, but I go on tilt without the Internet," Dario said.
