Greenstein Takes an Early Pot

Barry Greenstein raised to 450 from the button and got called by an opponent in middle position.

Greenstein led for 1,000 on a flop of {7-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{K-Hearts} and got another call. Both players checked the {K-Diamonds} on the turn, and Greenstein's opponent led for 2,000 on the river, which brought the {8-Clubs}. Greenstein reraised for his last few hundred and when the hands were revealed, his opponent showed {K-?}{Q-?}{A-?}{5-?} for trip kings.

"I can beat that," Greenstein said, turning over {8-?}{8-?}{6-?}{7-?} for a full house. Greenstein now has nearly 6,000 chips.

Jimmy Fricke is Sizing up the Field

Jimmy Fricke arrived late for his big blind, so he's being forced to wait an orbit before he can play a hand. In the meantime, he's putting his free time to good use, sizing up the competition.

His assessment? He told us he thinks the field is pretty soft and that most of the younger kids don't know how to play the game. We'll see if he's right as the day progresses.

Devilfish Doubles

We caught this hand in progress after David "Devilfish" Ulliott and his opponent got all in on a flop of {Q-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}.

Ulliott: {J-Spades}{9-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}
Opponent: {J-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{Q-Spades}

When the {6-Diamonds} and {2-Spades} failed to pair the board, Ulliott's straight held and increased his stack to 7,600.

A Killer Table

Walking through the room, we've found an amazingly tough table that's developed in the early going. In order, we have:

C.K. Hua
Jeffrey Lisandro
David "Devilfish" Ulliott
Rob Hollink
Jesper Hougaard
Kirill Gerasimov
Greg Aversa
Gavin Smith

Across the room, the influx of late registrants has forced tournament staff to create a new table by randomly pulling big blinds from existing tables. As a result, Mike Sexton, Gavin Griffin, and David Chiu are now all playing together.

Gowen Eliminates a Player

Clonie Gowen
Clonie Gowen
In a hand we picked up on the flop, Clonie Gowen bet 300 on a board of {J-Clubs}{10-Spades}{J-Diamonds} and got a call from a player behind her. Gowen check-raised the turn, which brought the {Q-Hearts}, and her opponent called all in.

Gowen: {A-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{7-Spades}{9-Clubs}
Opponent: {K-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}{K-Hearts}

When the river brought the {8-Hearts}, Gowen's trips held and she took the pot, pushing her stack to more than 4,000. Her opponent, who had apparently used his add-ons already, left the table.
