Day 2 Set to Start

Day 2 of the $2,500 Pot-Limit Omaha event kicks off in just about 30 minutes with 61 players competing for their shot at WSOP gold.

J.C. Tran is the big stack coming into today's session, but there are plenty of dangerous competitors lurking in the pack behind him. One of those players is Phil Ivey, who starts the day with an average stack and a whole lot of momentum. Can he make his way to yet another final table?

Stick around and find out. The cards fly shortly.

Vitaly Lunkin Eliminated

Vitaly Lunkin - Day 1
Vitaly Lunkin - Day 1
Vitaly Lunkin and Rami Boukai were the only two players to see a flop of {9-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}. When Lunkin pushed from the small blind, Boukai called and the hands were shown.

Lunkin: {A-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{Q-Spades}
Boukai: {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{9-Spades}

When the {4-Spades} fell on the turn, Boukai made his full house. The {7-Hearts} on the river was meaningless and Lunkin headed to the rail.

Joining Lunkin on the rail are John Davis and Hoyt Corkins, who have also been knocked out in the early going.

Lewis Leaves

Chad Layne limped from the cutoff and Jeff Lewis checked his option from the big blind before we saw the flop of {4-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}.

When Lewis bet 11,800, Layne raised an additional 13,900, which was enough to put Lewis in if he called, which he did.

Lewis: {9-Diamonds}{K-Spades}{K-Clubs}{2-Spades}
Layne: {A-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}

When Lewis couldn't improve as the board completed {3-Spades}{10-Spades}, his day was done.

Majd Runs into Baron's Quads

Pouya Majd got his remaining 18,000 in on a {8-Hearts} {6-Hearts} {6-Diamonds} flop and Isaac Baron made the call.

Baron turned up {J-Clubs} {7-Hearts} {6-Clubs} {6-Spades} for quads and Majd was drawing only to running aces with {A-Clubs} {A-Hearts} {K-Clubs} {Q-Spades}. The turn was the {9-Hearts}, the river was the {4-Clubs} and Majd hit the rail.

Short-Stack on Short-Stack Violence

Robert Mason moved his short stack all in from the cutoff and fellow short stack Michael Keiner made the call from the big blind, having Mason slightly covered.

Mason {A-Hearts} {A-Clubs} {K-Spades} {3-Clubs}
Keiner {A-Spades} {Q-Diamonds} {10-Spades} {5-Diamonds}

The board ran out {J-Spades} {6-Spades} {6-Hearts} {9-Hearts} {5-Hearts}, Mason's aces holding up to double his stack to 20,000. Keiner was left with only 7,500.

Perhaps even more disgusted with the hand was small blind Gregory Aversa, who confessed after the hand that he'd folded J-J-9-8. He would have flopped a full house and busted both players had he called.

Newman Has Aces Cracked; Hits the Rail

Clayton Newman had all his chips in the middle before he saw a flop of {Q-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} with Noah Boeken and Mark Tademy.

When Tademy moved all in, Boeken folded and he was heads up with Newman for the rest of the hand.

Tademy: {9-Spades}{9-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}
Newman: {4-Clubs}{A-Hearts}{A-Spades}{6-?}

The {Q-Hearts} on the turn made Tademy's house and left Newman looking for one of the two remaining aces, which didn't come when the {2-Hearts} fell on the river.

Tademy now has 126,000 in chips.
