Luck of the Draw

As the room starts to take shape, some very tough tables are forming... perhaps none as tough as table six, where Noah Boeken, Brock Parker, Michael Mizrachi, Shawn Buchanan, Shaun Deeb and Kirill Rabtsov are sharing real estate.

Justin 'Boosted J' Smith
Justin 'Boosted J' Smith
PokerNews blogger and online whiz kid Justin 'Boosted J' Smith has arrived, on a mission to add to the two cashes he's already netted at this year's WSOP.

Smith finished 9th in the $10,000 deuce-to-seven lowball world championship ($19,870), and 16th in the $10,000 heads-up world championship ($38,424).

He'll start the day sharing felt with 2009 WSOP bracelet winner Jason Mercier and Max 'The Italian Pirate' Pescatori.

Naujoks' Aces Hold

EPT Dortmund winner Sandra Naujoks is off to a good start early on, having busted an unknown opponent after her aces held up against an opponent's kings:

Naujoks: {A-?}{A-?}{J-?}{5-?}
Opponent: {K-?}{K-?}{5-?}{3-?}

The board fell a very safe {7-?}{2-?}{6-?}{2-?}{7-?} for the German pro, who now sits with 26,500 in chips.

Selbst an Early Casualty

Vanessa Selbst was eliminated from the tournament during the second level of play. Selbst found herself all in on the turn, holding the bottom end of a straight. Her opponent challenged with a set and a flush draw and managed to hit the flush on the river to send Selbst packing.

Shark Fishing

Nelson Wolff just stole a decent-sized pot from Humberto Brenes, courtesy of a turned straight flush that left Brenes with just 13,500 in chips.

The two got it all in on a flop of {2-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}{J-Clubs}; Brenes with {Q-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{2-Spades}{3-Spades} which was good for top set, and Wolff, {K-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{K-Spades}{A-Hearts}, with outs every which way to Sunday.

The deck, apparently in no mood for drama, spit out the {10-Clubs} on the turn, which ended the hand right then and there.

"It happens live, too!" said Brenes after the hand.

Wolff piled up just under 20,000 in chips with the win.

Scott Seiver Eliminated

Scott Seiver
Scott Seiver
Two players limped in from early position and Jimmy Fricke made it 1,100 to go from the cutoff. Scott Seiver was on the button and reraised to 4,000. The two limpers got out of the way and Fricke reraised 4,900 more, enough to put Seiver all in. He called.

Fricke: {K-Diamonds} {K-Hearts} {Q-Spades} {5-Clubs}
Seiver: {Q-Spades} {J-Clubs} {9-Clubs} {8-Diamonds}

The board came {A-Hearts} {Q-Clubs} {8-Hearts} {J-Hearts} {K-Hearts} giving Fricke a set and the pot, eliminating Scott Seiver from the tournament.

Fricke - 14,200.

Deeb Dented

Shaun Deeb is down to 5,000 in chips early after ending up on the losing end of a major confrontation with an unknown opponent.

We caught up to the hand on the flop, with the board showing {8-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}. The small blind passed the first action to Deeb who led out with a 625 bet. Michael Mizrachi made the call and when the action returned to the small blind, he raised the pot, making it approximately 2,400 to go. Shaun told us he then repotted, putting the small blind all in. Mizrachi got out of the way and the small blind made the call, prompting the following showdown:

Deeb: {A-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}
Opponent: {J-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{10-Spades}{6-Hearts}

The {4-Clubs} fell on the turn giving Deeb's opponent a jack-high flush and the checkmark for the hand.
