Event 35 - $5,000 Pot Limit Omaha

Day 1 Completed

Bag 'em and Tag 'em

The clock has been paused with ten minutes remaining in the level and the dealers have been instructed to deal three more hands at each table before we call it a night.

The tournament clock says that 64 players remain, though we'll have the official number from Harrahs in a few hours.

The day saw a plethora of big names hit the rail today, including the likes of Omaha specialists Robert Williamson III, David Benyamine, Phil Galfond and Lee Watkinson.

Some of the names to keep an eye on tomorrow afternoon include Sorel Mizzi, Ralph Perry, Cliff Josephy and Sandra Naujoks. The overnight chip leader appears to be WSOP bracelet winner Jesper Hougaard who bagged up 208,500 in chips. Hougaard is followed closely behind by Rifat Palevic, who'll restart Day 2 with 207,400 in chips.

Tune in to PokerNews tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. local time for our continued coverage of Event 35. Until then, from the Rio All Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV... good night and good luck!

Play Tightens

Often near the end of the evening, players put their conservative hats on hoping to cruise safely to the following day. Such was the case in a hand that recently went down between Jacques Zaicik and Sandra Naujoks.

We caught up to the hand on the flop, with the board showing {Q-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}. Timothy Finne checked, as did both Zaicik (EP) and Naujoks (CO). The {3-Hearts} came on the turn and Finne passed the first action to Zaicik who led out with a 10,000 bet. Naujoks made the call and Finne tossed his cards into the muck pile.

The river brought the {5-Hearts} and both Zaicik and Naujoks checked. At the showdown, Zaicik turned over the {A-Spades}, {4-Hearts} for a wheel, but Naujoks one-upped him, tabling {K-Hearts}, {2-Hearts} for the second nuts.

Naujoks piled up 70,000 in chips after the hand.

Clements' Night Over

Scott Clements
Scott Clements
Scott Clements hit the rail with about an hour left to go on Day 1.

All of the chips went into the middle on a {K-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{3-Spades} flop; Clements' with two pair (kings and threes) and Timothy Finne's with top pair and an open-ended straight draw.

Finne managed to hit an ace on the turn for Broadway and Clements failed to boat up on the river, putting a fast end to an otherwise long day.
