As we noted, Perry Friendman was short towards the end of the last round, and he has indeed now died and gone to tournament heaven.

We don't know exactly how it happened, but former table mate Carol Kline said it happened on the very first hand back from the break, and Sam Grizzle has a suspiciously hefty 8,300 stack in front of him. Kline, by the by, is up to a healthy 5,850.

Negreanu Chops an Early Pot

Daniel Negreanu's had a decent start to his day -- he only turned up a few minutes ago and he's already boosted his stack to 5,000.

In a three-way pot, he called a bet on 5th street with {3-Clubs}

showing, and then bet out when he got dealt the {3-Diamonds}

on 6th street. One of his two opponents folded, but the other called, and proceeded to call Negreanu's bet on seventh street. They chopped, and Negreanu got a little something by way of chips to start off his day with a smile.

He Cantu Come Back from This

Brandon Cantu seems to have had a dreadful first couple of levels. For a start, he's sharing a table with Allen Cunningham and David Sklansky. Furthermore, he's managed to lose much of his stack to one or another player at his table (Sklansky seems to be doing the best among the folks at that particular table, on around 7,000) and is now short.

Cantu picked up a little helping hand in the shape of a player who got a few of his chips in the pot by sixth street and then folded to a bet from Cantu showing {J-Diamonds}

. Nevertheless, he's still on just 1,700 and looking a little precarious.

Cantu Half-Doubles

Brandon Cantu got his last chips in on fourth street against David Sklansky and one more player; the two not all in continued betting down fifth, sixth and seventh to form a chunky side pot which Sklansky took possession of at the end of the hand, as well as half of the main pot. Cantu was the only player who made a low, though, so got himself half of the main pot for his trouble, and remains in on an uncomfortable 2,500 or so.

Gobboboy Jammed

Jimmy Fricke was all in on fourth street and his three opponents all managed to make it to seventh street. Jon "pearljammer" Turner made a straight and a low; Steve Sung managed to make a flush to beat him for the high. The fourth player mucked and stayed in, but Fricke mucked and made his way to the exit.
