Double Feature

The featured tables should provide for some good television today. The main table over in the ESPN arena contains Greg Raymer and Jason Alexander, and Alexander has a good stack of nearly 90,000 chips to wage war with. Over on the secondary feature, the matchup between Chris Ferguson and Roland de Wolfe figures to be a good one to watch as well.

BOOM!

On one of the very first hands of the day, Mark Landgraf was crushed in dramatic fashion. According to Landgraf, this is how the hand went down.

Landgraf's opponent, Alexander Yaroshetskiy, raised to 1,200 preflop and Landgraf called. The flop came down {K-Hearts} {Q-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds}. Yaroshetskiy bet 5,000 into Landgraf and he called.

The turn added another lady to the party with the {Q-Spades}. Yaroshetskiy fired out 10,000 and Landgraf called.

The river brought the {10-Hearts} and Yaroshetskiy bet a hefty 20,000. Landgraf shoved and his opponent snap-called. Landgraf was happy to roll over {A-Clubs} {Q-Clubs} for quad queens. Yaroshetskiy however, was holding a superior hand, {A-Hearts} {J-Hearts}, for the royal flush. The table erupted and one player even fell back out of his chair as he was leaning back in it.

Yaroshetskiy is now up to 240,000 and Landgraf dropped all the way to 15,000.

Hansen KO'd Early

On a flop of {K-Clubs} {Q-Spades} {3-Diamonds}, Norman Gautron bet out and Gus Hansen called. The turn brought the {10-Diamonds} and Gautron bet again. Hansen raised and then Gautron moved all in. Hansen snap-called with {A-?} {J-?} for the Broadway straight. Gautron held pocket threes for bottom set.

The river was a dagger to the heart of Hansen when the {K-Diamonds} paired the board, sending him to the rail.

Luck of the Draw

You show up for Day 2a of the WSOP Main Event, having slogged your way through Day 1. You're feeling pretty good about things, until you see your table draw for the day: Mike Matusow, Isaac Baron and John Hennigan. That's what greeted six players at Orange 65 today.

Baron has already been active. He lost 10,000 chips to Hennigan after raising 1,200 preflop, betting 2,400 on a flop of {6-Clubs} {8-Diamonds} {Q-Clubs}, checking the {2-Clubs} turn and calling 6,500 on the {7-Spades} river. Baron's {A-Diamonds} {A-Clubs} pocket aces were cracked by Hennigan's {7-Clubs} {4-Clubs}, which turned a club flush.

"John Hennigan, ladies and gentleman," said Matusow.

A few hands later, Baron called a short stack's all in. Baron's {7-Diamonds} {7-Hearts} was in rough shape against the short stack's {A-Spades} {A-Hearts} but flopped a set, {K-Diamonds} {9-Diamonds} {7-Clubs}. The set held through the river.

"Seven right in the window," exclaimed Matusow. "Isaac Baron, ladies and gentlemen. Loses 10,000 with aces and gets 4,000 back cracking someone else's aces."

Maimone Takes One From Yarosh

Nick Maimone and Daryl Yarosh went to the turn on a board of {K-Diamonds} {6-Hearts} {4-Diamonds}. The turn brought the {7-Clubs} and Maimone checked. Yarosh bet 3,000 and Maimone called.

The river brought the {2-Clubs} and Maimone check-called a bet of 7,200 this time. Yarosh tabled {A-Diamonds} {Q-Clubs} for some whiffed Broadway cards. Maimone showed pocket nines and won the hand to move to 135,000.

Maier Doubles Allam

From the hijack seat, Lana Maier raised to 1,100 and got two callers. The first caller was Robert Campbell on the button and the second was Jules Allam in the big blind.

The flop came down {Q-Spades} {J-Spades} {10-Clubs} and Allam checked. Maier fired a continuation bet of 3,500 before Campbell folded. Allam then raised all in for 9,150 total. Maier called holding {Q-Clubs} {J-Hearts} for top two pair. Allam held {9-Spades} {5-Spades} for a straight draw and a flush draw.

The turn was the {3-Spades}, giving Allam the flush. Maier failed to fill up on the river when the {6-Clubs} hit and dropped to 67,000.
