Ivey Makes a Soul Read

John Monnette raised to 30,000 and Phil Ivey called. Ivey drew two and Monnette took one. Ivey checked and Monnette fired 45,000. Ivey counted out some chips and studied Monnette with his eyes darting and mouth wide open -- the famous Ivey pose. Ivey then called and Monnette nodded as Ivey showed an ace low for the best hand.

The Crowd Grows

More spectators have rolled into the building to watch the heads-up battle. Joe Sebok and much of the PokerRoad squad are here. Perry Friedman is sitting with a small entourage of people rooting for Phil Ivey on the other side of the room as well.

After Phil won that last pot, Friedman yelled, "We're here!" as the crowd cheered on Ivey.

Ivey Moves In

John Monnette opened with a raise to 28,000 and then Phil Ivey reraised to 85,000 straight. Monnette called.

Ivey stood pat while Monnette drew one card. Ivey moved all in and Monnette studied him hard. Monnette relinquished his hand after a moment and Ivey scooped the pot.

Monnette Gets One

Most of the pots thus far haven't gone to a draw. A simple raise or a reraise is often enough to take down the pot.

John Monnette raised to 30,000 and Phil Ivey called. Both players drew two cards. Ivey fired a bet of 40,000 and Monnette called. Monnette's {9-?} {8-?} {7-?} {6-?} {2-?} was the best hand and he won the pot.
